id be very shocked in a PL-15 cost 1m+.

J-10C and PL-15 deal. $10.17 billion RMB (~$1.5B USD) for 20 J-10CE, 240 PL-15E, 10 spare WS-10B and a FMS and associated stores and services.

240 missiles even at 1m would be a huge portion of the contract. Id expect a single PL-15 to be around, or less than 500k/missile

I have used the widely accepted price which is $1.2 million

The PL-15E has a public sale price of $1.2~1.5 million. Pakistan's purchase price is $210 million for 240 of them.

its really amazing how well you talk out of your arse...

Pakistan had made the worlds largest AMRAAM order at the time...600 missiles. I bet a PL15 is a whole lotta cheaper too.

On top of that, China's largest exports of arms have always been to Pakistan... $8bn...
PAF utilized that window of opportunity and ordered 500 AMRAMs, they knew that US can turn around anytime and impose sanctions. Its not the same case with China.

So that's 5 Million USD worth of missiles slung under the wings.
I don't think they carry out regular CAP with PL 15, as flying hours for these missiles are limited, after which they need refurbishment.
May be that's where SD 10 comes handy. The usual air patrols may be with those.

The D version is expensive. But Pakistan has the C version in bulk.
Those are nearing the end of their Shelf life of 10 years. Don't know if US will provide the spares for refurbishment. Or has it happened already?

Likewise those have a Captive carry life or under the wing flying time of 1500 Hours , after which those need an overhaul.

it just wouldnt make sense, 1.2m is HUGE
D version has that price. Pakistan has C version.
I once visited the display stall of a contractor supplying cooling components for AAMRAAM . They had small Titanium cylinders on display. Those carried liquified gas at very high pressure, inside the AAMRAAM.
At certain time during the flight the bottle discharged , flooding the electronics with liquid gas, cooling components.
Just the bottles were stupid expensive. Then the actuators and other systems.
So in my opinion , the price tag does make sense.

Do you have a reference to back up that claim? 10year shelf life for the missile makes little sense to me. Some components may need to be refurbished but the missile overall will have a much longer shelf life if the maintenance schedule is adhered to.
