PAF J-35AE - News, Updates and Discussions

No, it only means they are confident to show it on an airshow! As such the first test-phase has been concluded but to think it would be ready for mass-production, operational service or even export is plain naive.
Ik but Michael said j-35 with ws-19 engine will be ready for production by next year which is why I'm kinda surprised by it

Please note that I used the term “small batch”, not “large batch”. Please do not misunderstand me.

According to reliable sources, the total WS19 deliveries will be about 30 units by 2025 Chinese New Year. It is only enough to produce about 10 J35A(WS19) at most. This is small batch test service, not mass service. Theoretically, they'll go to Dingsin base next year for tactical testing. It is still some time away from mass production.

I didn't say anything about mass production. I thought they would need a bit more time before entering service with PLAAF. I trust your source tho. Maybe i misunderstood what u said.

J-35A Gyrfalcon

It was first rumored in March 2021 that a dedicated variant dubbed J-35A was being developed for PLAAF without arresting hook and folded wings. Consequently the airframe is believed to be lighter than the naval J-35, thus improves its performance. An airframe was rumored to have been transported to the 623 Institute for static tests in March 2022. It was also speculated in mid-2023 that a J-35B tandem seat version similar to J-20B could be under development for training and EW purposes. The first J-35A prototype conducted its maiden flight over Shenyang on September 26, 2023. A recent image (May 2024) indicated that at least one J-35A prototype has been flying at SAC, featuring an FC-31 style single-wheel nose gear and an IRST underneath the nose. In addition, its wing area appears slightly smaller than the carrier-borne J-35. J-35A is anticipated to be unveiled at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow.

But that makes less sense - KF-21 brings nothing India’s own programs cannot do.

They need an operational capability as soon as the timeline for J-35 acquisition is confirmed for Pakistan and F-35 is the ideal if not “roses with thorns” platform for India.
They will do what the did in the 1980's after the Viper sale. Cry. And the Mirage2000 and MiG29 equivalents. IMO, they will go for Su-57

The IAF and SU57 are now on different paths. It seems unlikely that they will ever work together. India appears to be leaning towards France, with plans to acquire Rafales and potentially participate in the FCAS program. Meanwhile, the lollypop of the MK1A, MK2, and AMCA continues. The F35 remains a possibility, but only if India feels sufficiently threatened to compromise its sovereignty. J35 competitor is nothing but Rafale and more importantly the whole A2AD environment (including AD systems) present in india. Let's hope J35 will be superior to that.

Pakistan buys Chinese version of American F-35

if India buy F-35A then that will be great match between Chinese and American technologies

J-35A vs F-35A .. lol

Pakistan will be the first muslim Country to have a stealth Fighter Jet

Indonesia gets KF-21 but without internal weapon bay
Turkiye develops its own KAAN stealth Fighter Jet

Not forgetting that the F-35 will need to be data linked to entire Indian air defence network, radars and other fighters. Unless you are operating an entire ecosystem F-35 will be a liability rather then an asset.

F-35 looks bloated when visually compared to J-35

Don't underestimate indian ability to work with so many different systems. It's a by-product they have for all their confussions and lack of long term procurement policy till now.

Well its a mish mash of systems but relatively easy to network some.

F-35 secure network coding will not be available to Indians, US will not let this link up to non US/Western assets (See Turkiye). So F-35 will not be able to "talk" to IAF Neta, S-400, SU-30s. It should be fine with Rafales, P-8 etc/

See how that can become a major issue?

Are there any weapons which are truly, 100% made by India?
