Simple question did PAF got j35 yet ? What was the surprise for Aug 14 that I missed ?

The only surprise was another General Raani, Maryam Nawaz, while no other CM was invited.

So ISPR lied?

ISPR was hinting about a new missile not a fighter plane which low IQ Pakistanis were expecting as evident with this thread lately. They just don't analyze the context of ISPR press that time rather than relying more on tweets (cut/short version) of this talk. If some one watches his entire press conference that time, the discussion was about recent missile test(s) where he mentioned about a 'surprise'.

PAF truly takes their time in evaluating a platform before they go ahead with the induction. It took PAF 15 years after first evaluating J-10s before we actually got em.

What the Rafale is stuck with is what the French have in production---.

The benefit of the J10 is what the pakistani needs are and how the chinese will go about meeting them---.

A 5th hgen aircraft is not something that you would jump into the seat and take off.

As J35 is the target aircraft---PAF has already started training pilots / crew--and this is my information from about 3 years ago--- it maybe 2 yrs old news but is is there.

The delayed acquisition of the J10C's was also due to hurdles being thrown in the way by the F16 lobby in Paf.

Exactly J10CP has shown that it can take Rafale

Indian 5th generation is not active yet so why rush the J35 and cut corners
lets wait till 2030 and get the program matured and by that time we will also know what 5th generation the J35 will be going up against

then we can tailor the J35 against whatever Indian 5th Generation fighter they get if its the Russian Su-57 then so be it

My understanding is that the Rafale will always have problems against the J10 as well as the JF17---.

The main issue to my understanding is the nose cone size of the Rafale---and I have written about it in a few prior posts/

The size of the Rafale nose can accomodate an AESA radar with about 855 TR modules---.

The size of the Rafale nose has constarints---it cannot be enlarged due to the positioning of the engine intakes---.

OTOH---the J10 has around 1400 TR modules on its aesa radar---& the JF17---possibly around a 1000 TR modules.

Whereas the F15 / F35 have over or around 1500 ++ TR modules and the F22's have around 2000 TR modules similar to J20---.

Now---if the F22's still have the first gen aesa radar and the J20 with the 3rd gen aesa---?????

The critical factor here---how fast the TR modules cycles itself---. An electronics guy would know better---.

Disclaimer coming out is that the J10 did not use its awacs---but used its own resources---and I said to myself---this is what I wrote awhile ago---awacs are a give away---the aircrafts own aesa will have to work superior to that of the other party's aesa---.

If it was not so---then the F22's and F35 would become redundant if they based their capabilities on an awac---as an awac be observable from a distance---and the presence of awac meant---the f22 and f35's are there.

The F16 mafia lobby were proven to be wrong, the J10CE proved to be the star of show, outclassing the F16's performance by talking all the kills. Thankfully someone somewhere in the PAF was able to overcome the F16 mafia lobby and push through the J10CE.

Bro, there is no "lobby" in PAF. That's a wrong word altogether. Yes there can be pilots who love a particular machine as their favorite. But that does not mean they have authority to do "lobbying" for actual procurements. Mastan is KNOWN for lambi lambi chorna. He has been busted many many times over. And now new Shosha that there is a lobby inside PAF. PAF got F-16s in early 80s, China could build only F-6 / copy of mig-21 by then. PAF spent a lot of resources, training and tactics built around the F-16s. Looking to expand the fleet was natural choice.

All changed with India's play to aquire 36 Rafales in mid-2010s + the same time when China's military aviation had caught up with americans in many ways + the long range BVRs they were building and their availability to PAF unlike American equipment. The 36 4.5 gen fighters of IAF had to be countered but 4th gen F-16 with AIM-120C5 (a shorter stick) wasn't up to that level. PAF literally had no other long range BVR option other than PL-15. PAF ordered 25 JF-17Cs and 20 J-10Cs. The J-10C made one kill at around 190KM that means PL-15s were also aquired in addition to PL-15Es.

So circumstances like access to long range BVR stick, affordability/ pay-later aquisition, weapon and some logistic commonality with large JF-17 fleet, etc lead to obvious choice of J-10C to complement the 4.5 fleet for PAF. It wasn't that one lobby won over the other lobby. F-16 B72 + Aim-120D wasn't even available so there's no point for lobby for anything that's unavailable.
