PAF SAM based Air Defense System - News, Discussion & Updates

Although I hate talking to people with a blue crescent flag
You've seen a few interviews with the Ukrainian air defense forces
IRIS-T The most intercepted are caliber and KH101 cruise missiles,And the Shahed drone.Have you seen any of their intercepted Kinzhal, Iskander and other ballistic missiles, or the P800 ,KH22. supersonic missile?
Since when was IRIS T for ABM?

Have you ever seen a submarine destroy a fighter jet?

Surprisingly, the launch vehicle for the hq-16f, which has a range set at 160 km, is exactly the same size as the LY-80.

Not surprising at all, HQ-16A missiles were just really inefficient were way large then they needed to be, HQ-16FE is what you can achieve in the same footprint.

yeah the original HQ-16 developed with Almaz Antey was indeed too wasteful for the size of missile. Buk was a good SAM but even by 2000s time it started getting outdated. Only until HQ-16B was the series range extended to 70km and beyond which was normal for its size. Now further thankfully but a missile with HQ-16A size should be achieving 150km+ by today's standard.

If HQ16FE has range of 160km, and HQ9P also has range of 160km, then why have two systems in the Medium range SAM?

Like what advantage one has over the other?

The HQ-9 series SAMs, belonging to the same generation, are a level above the HQ-16 series SAMs.

For example:

If a WZ-8 reconnaissance aircraft is flying over your defense zone, the HQ-16 series SAMs, including the latest HQ-16FE SAM, are completely ineffective and have absolutely no chance of intercepting it. However, the HQ-9 series SAMs have a certain probability of shooting it down (depending on the WZ-8's flight status at the time).

That's the difference.

For the same era as the hq-16F, the hq-9B has a range of 400 km.

Alright, to make it easy to understand, what does the HQ9 have that HQ16FE doesn't have that it cannot intercept the WZ-8?

Also we are talking about HQ9P and B versions that Pakistan has versus the HQ16FE

1、The HQ-9 series SAM is positioned as a medium-to-long-range air defense system; the HQ-16 series SAM is positioned as a medium-to-short-range SAM. Their roles are completely different. Their interception range, interception altitude, radar detection capabilities, and missile size are all significantly different. Of course, this comparison is based on different sub-versions from the same era. You cannot compare the latest HQ-16 with the oldest HQ-9. Specific data can be found through many channels. ------ The HQ-9C is a "mini version" developed based on the HQ-9B technology. Its interceptor missile's operating range overlaps with the HQ-16 series, but its size is much smaller.

2. The HQ-9P in Pakistan is not a factory-grade version. It is a version customized for Pakistan based on the HQ-9A. The HQ-9BE in Pakistan is the standard export version of the HQ-9B.

Besides the difference in interception distance, there is also a difference in interception altitude. The HQ-9BE can intercept at an altitude of 50 km, while the HQ-16FE's maximum interception altitude is 27 km. The WZ-8 reconnaissance aircraft typically operates at an altitude between 30 km and 50 km, which is significantly higher than the HQ-16FE's maximum interception altitude.
