Definitely a strategic error encouraged by Delhi. They are most certainly behind this. The idiots for hire in Kabul obliged without hesitation.

The reason it is an error is because Kabul were told they could go toe to toe with Pakistan in a regular confrontation. Hitherto, their main asset was the irregular forces it sends across the border to terrorise civilians.

I think this is a severe mis-step by Kabul that will have profound costs for their regime. Delhi will skulk off up a tree somewhere after we have embarrassed their latest proxy.

There wasn't a option except to do this and the military finally realized when the casualty rate want sky-high the last couple of months. They were betting on afghan Taliban to stop ttp but it didn't happen. That would have greatly benefitted them also. Now the best case scenario would be to completely eliminate ttp and give a sharp enough slap to the afghan Taliban so they come to their senses and stop supporting them and actually oppose them. The only problem is to not fall into a proxy war with the afghan Taliban themselves directly. But at the end there was no other option than this. They chose this. We didn't . We just started responding now.

Yes but then doing the utter disaster of a press conference wasn’t needed as well.
Come in -provide who was attacked and why - no need to mention domestic instability beyond the issue of militant attacks and then move on to let PML(N) stick to the political mud slinging.
