This account is usually very reliable

Tolo News is particularly unreliable as a news source.

If this news is true, then why not do an air strike and take out the Taliban that are attacking Pakistani posts ? Why is Pakistan risking more soldiers for this nonsense ??
What is needed is a decapitating strike on the Afghan leadership.. and in the ensuing chaos build a buffer zone of 10-20 km, and annex wakhan corridor

This time we are fighting on 3 fronts Afghanis indians and then our own Namak harams like PTI/TLP may God bless our Army.
A big chunk of soldiers in the army probably voted for PTI. Maybe think twice before making such nonsensical comments and derail the thread.

Also, when has a secular COIN operation ever permanently work against religious extremists? It was either brutal scorched earth and basically genocide or allowing religious folks their way of life but adapting it within the county’s framework. All of GCC, Aceh in Indonesia, Chechnya, and many North African countries have done this. They have segments of their populations who are extremely religious but instead of trying to divide religion from customs or trying to push some secular national identity on them, they allowed them to keep their religious identity but adapted it to not be at odds with the state or in Indonesia’s and Chechnya’s case, allowed them to live their way of life in their territory.
Maybe it’s Pakistan which needs the defence pact with Saudi. Ask Saudi to send over COIN advisors and learn how they dealt with post 9/11 and post 2013.
The notion that secular counterinsurgency efforts have never succeeded against religious extremists simplifies a far more complex reality. History teaches us that simply allowing religious communities to “live their way of life” without addressing underlying political, economic, and social grievances often just papered over deeper fractures. Those examples you cited in the GCC, Aceh, Chechnya have indeed reached uneasy accommodations, but these arrangements rest on strong state control, significant resources, or brutal suppression beneath the surface, not on relaxed coexistence alone.

If a state tries to simply adapt religious identity to the nation’s framework without confronting the causes of alienation which include marginalization, lack of representation, poverty to then the resentment remains beneath the surface, waiting to flare again. The so-called “living their way of life” often comes with heavy strings attached, from heavy surveillance to political co-optation. This dynamic is not a pure victory of religious tolerance but an exercise of power that manages, rather than resolves, conflict.

Invoking external models for Pakistan without considering its unique colonial legacy, ethnic diversity, and geopolitical pressures risks ignoring how those same tactics might fail or exacerbate tensions here. Defense pacts and foreign advisors can only do so much if the foundational social contract within the country remains fractured. What is needed is not just importing counterinsurgency playbooks but addressing the root causes inclusive of governance, economic equity, and a shared national vision that respects identities without allowing them to become fault lines.

True stability comes not from dividing or suppressing religious expression but from building a state where customs and identities coexist with justice and opportunity for all citizens rather than just the few. Without that, any accommodation is temporary, and the cycle of conflict will only restart under different guises.
