Army fighting them in ex-FATA made mainland KPK relatively safe compared to pre 2014 era. And Punjab virtually terror free from TTP.

But with army now taking the fight to Afghanistan, this will bring peace to ex-FATA. So at this point there is no option but to keep pounding them across the border. This can go for long time till some change is brought in Afghanistan.

Its better this way, you loss less soldiers and have clear idea about who the enemy is. FATA/KPK/Balochistan become relatively peaceful.

You can not afford to weaken Afghan government (be it karzai, Ashraf ghani or IEA) to a point that afghan land is open field for ISIS and others.

They still need to have some capabilities to tackle any foreign terrorist groups that want to establish base in Afghanistan. Otherwise you will have a Syria on your border.

What on earth did this backward dumb fcuks think they were doing!?

Taking on a military like Pakistan's with its training, weapons and experiance fighting a much larger foe, not to mention that unlike the Soviets or Americans we know the land and live on it too.

You misunderstood me. By Con, I meant the moderate population. Not that there are no towns. Preferably we should take areas with little to no population like wakhan, Kandahar and Helmand deserts upto Kandahar desert, Southern most areas of paktika district.

But current eastern back of Kunar offers the most, security wise, but has many villages.

And who GAF about optics. Forget Syria, Did anyone stop Turkey from taking large parts of Iraq as a buffer.? Or Golan for Syria? At some point we will have to grow a pair.

Logistics, supply lines and troop strength is an issue. Political environment is also not conducive when the largest populist leader says afghans are our brothers and the army is in anti taliban camp.
