I have a solution to this mess with Afghanistan. The only problem is, it needed to be applied in the past. Now we have no choice but the deal with things as they are now.

I think the self-appointed rulers in Pakistan didn’t expect things to escalate as much as they have. For weeks I was hearing about Pakistani plans for regime change in Afghanistan. I’m sure the Taliban also watch Pakistani talk shows and knew about it. Instead of surrendering they decided to fight.

FM-SAM and Company have kicked a hornet’s nest. If regime change was the plan then they can forget about it now. If anything, the people of Afghanistan will support the Taliban. No one wants their government overthrown by a foreign power. If it had to be done it should have been done from behind the scenes.

The timing couldn’t be worse. The Pashtuns of Pakistan were already under stress because of the way PTI was suppressed. Now we’re at war with the Pashtuns of Afghanistan as well.

What could go wrong?

Their terror attacks just kept increasing and increasing. Pak army and government waited 3 years before they said enough is enough. I mean, everyone has a breaking point.

We pioneered this way of thinking with the Mujahideen and now the chickens have come home to roost.

Their first generation Mullah Umer, Haqqani are all dead and even the Pakistani generals who used to have links with them are either all retired or dead. Current generation of Pakistani army and of Taliban fighters do not like each other nor have a soft spot for either side.

I think one factor people don't realize is that the Taliban really can't control lot of the TTP elements their rule is already weak at best and with threat of ISIS-k and NR in the background they don't want these elements turning against them so they can't stop these elements from carrying out attacks even if they want to The recent attack in Mir Ali is reflective of that.

But the Taliban also can't afford the continual PAF airstrikes on their military infrastructure and logistics and perhaps in the future even decapitation strikes on their leadership and even perhaps the funding of opposition groups like the NR, I think the airstrikes in Kabul really shook the taliban because it really hurts their legitimacy.

However, how effective is this really? typically just bombing the odd camp or two does nothing for lasting, long term effects.

Do you think Taliban can afford continues attacks on their men & material ?
They are no longer a rag tag militia but a ruling elite of Afghanistan.They can't just go and hide somewhere.This will put pressure on them either accept the Pak terms or reciprocate the attacks on Pakistan.

Just dont think about Arieal bombing. Stopping trade with afghan would create inflation, hyper inflation and hunger in Afghanistan. Just think what alone this would do as Afghan is also the main reason for Pakistan current account deficit and dollar sumggling. Every issue of major issue of Pak is linked with Afghan directly or indirectly.
