Pakistan Air Force: Attaining New Heights
Alan Warnes, Key’s Group Editor at Large, Modern Military, has been fortunate to visit Pakistan Air Force (PAF) more than 20 times between 2001 and 2021. This book, the second written by Alan on PAF, portrays one of the most professional air forces in the world, operating a mix of US and Chinese fighters, plus other types of Italian, Russian, Swedish and Ukrainian aircraft. Hundreds of images capture them in operational use all over Pakistan and often at forward operating bases (secured military positions supporting tactical and strategic operations).

Pakistan shares its borders with Iran, China, India and Afghanistan, a border which requires considerable care and attention. It is imperative for the safety of Pakistan’s citizens to keep air defences on the highest alert, which Alan illustrates in this 100-page book.

PAF also runs an aerospace company, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex at Kamra, which manufactures the MFI-17 Mushshak/Super Mushshak and JF-17 Thunder for its own needs.

Alan has spent a great deal of time interviewing PAF staff and taking photographs of the air force in action, making this book a must for military aviation enthusiasts wanting to know more about an air force that builds and and operates its own aircraft.

Quote of the Day
The Yo-Yo is very difficult to explain. It was first perfected by the well-known Chinese fighter pilot Yo-Yo Noritake. He also found it difficult to explain, being quite devoid of English.

Quite an informative interview with a PAF AM. If my rudimentary understanding of Urdu doesn't fail me, the key take-aways are:
  • The PAF is on the right side of history by keeping its edge over the IAF
  • J-10Cs are a class in itself surpassing F-16s in several aspects
  • The PAF pilots are training with FC-31s or J-35s
  • The Chinese technology has the propensity to surprise and surpass the Western one like the way BYD has done over TESLA, or Deepseek over Chatgpt
  • On 02-27 the PAF brought down 2 jets and one chopper while not crossing the LOC. [My initial gut feeling was the IAF's IFF got hacked. Looks like it might be the case]
  • Etc.
