As per news from Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) today; Rs. 1.094 Billion have been reserved for Pakistan Army to purchase a Lineage 1000 Business Jet (similar to one bought by the PN and currently being used by PM VVIP pool). But the amount resvered barely translates to US$3.9M and a pre-owned Lineage 1000 or 1000E today costs around US$25-US$28 Million. So why the Army has all of sudden chosen this Brazilian platform & the nature of the funds solicited from ECC remains for the moment a mystery. Army already has good smaller business jets that can be used by the top brass to travel comfortably worldwide.

Is it possible they will buy it for Sea Sultan?

Unless the purchase is for some Army based EW platform ? ie not VIP but actual military use ?

Very Unlikely keeping in view Army doctrine and the petty amount resvered by ECC

Keeping in view the ECC funds solicited; it 'may' be for chartering of the Lineage 1000 Business Jet from some international vendor based on monthly hours usage.

One aspect of this 'mystery' solicitation is that if not handled correctly, it may prove to be a PR disaster for Pakistan Army keeping in view that our valiant soldiers on the front lines with BLA and TTP still lack IED proof vehicles.

How did you arrive at this aircraft is for the Pakistan Army?

The monies have been reserved for a Lineage L-1000 aircraft for the "Defense Services". That could apply to any of the services and in all likelihood is an initial payment for adding further aircraft to the PN fleet for its Sea Sultan program.

The Sea Sultans will replace the current fleet of P-3s which numbers 6 and the overall plan is to grow this fleet to upwards of 10 aircraft. So step-by-step, the numbers are being acquired, refurbished, modernized for induction.

Because the ECC categorically mentions it for Pakistan Army. Do a Google to read the Dawn News report as well. It s not for any other service. Besides with the petty monies reserved, it will not buy any used Lineage 1000 aircraft

I am reading the GoP notification which clearly mentions that it is for "Defense Services". Second, in all likelihood it is a second-hand unit, thus the initial amount may just be an installment.

Also, as many other posters are suggesting, this aircraft does not fit the profile of aircraft in Pakistan Army Aviation, but it does for the Pakistan Navy. Just trying to connect the dots logically.

"Currently Pakistan has inducted 2 new Sea Sultan Maritime Patrol Aircraft for Anti Submarine warfare, Anti-surface warfare (ASuW). Search and Rescue. Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). Targeting support for naval assets.

Pakistan has used Embraer Lineage 1000E and purchased existing mission systems, radar and sensors, weapons integration from Leonardo and developed a mature MPA. Technology wise it is very similar to Saab Swordfish. This Will give Pakistan an edge in submarine hunting missions and keep Indian Navy <at> bay in case India ever decides to blockade them. Pakistan is working towards configuring the Sea Sultan with homegrown weapon systems. For example, the Pakistani defence industry recently revealed the Rasoob 250 ALCM and Eghraaq lightweight torpedo (LWT).
Total 8 planes are on order with 2 delivered, which will be replacing P-3C Orion and complement RAS-72 MPA."

I think we are at 3 delivered but that still leaves 5 more units, if not more, on the table to be acquired.
