So I was getting my car washed and suddenly saw two Army Pickups pass full with soldiers in combat gear and carrying this crap G3M. GOD forbid if convoys gets attacked man even straighten and using this monster will take so much time that soldiers won't survive. This gun is way too big and heavy. Seriously not suitable for modern times.

@Panzerkiel @GriffinsRule @RangeMaster @WebMaster @VCheng @Waz

@Mods please make it a sticky thread let's discuss Army Rifles, handguns, Sniper Rifles and related things here

That is why it is referred to as an assult rifle...it is not ment for CQB.
It is good n has stood the test of time for the purpose it was made for.

Even in conventional battle carrying this monster file is really troublesome.

Well while not strictly Army, but I remember talking to a Marine once, he said the G3 was a "meethi" rifle in bunkers and trenches

While the internal mechanism might be obsolete (roller-delayed blowback)
It can play a role as a DMR with a 1×8 scope mounted on it (M110/MK-14/SCAR-17)
On top of that
Military doctrine is slowly shifted back from smaller calibres to larger ones
An example of which is the US army transition from 5.56 to 6.8 fury as a result of the lesson learnt from the Afghan war
So the question of this rifle being obsolete or not really depends on what configuration and what role we are intended this rifle to be used for
