Shahid Kaqaan Abbasi kept mentioning we need to sit with the army and ask them what they want, and both politicians and generals need to reach a conclusion on what powers the army wants, then we can move forward as a nation, no more coups and interference like before. It seems that is what is being done now, whether good or bad. Shabaz Sharif will complete full 5 years wahooo lol

The military has struggled to choose its role, whether to steer democracy discreetly from behind the scenes or take charge openly. Likewise, it remains unclear whether those in power will act with integrity or pursue selfish ambitions.
What truly worries me is that, sooner or later, these Generals may find themselves cornered, desperately seeking an exit. And by then… it might be too late....It will harm Pakistan ....

The 27th Const. Amendment is essentially to give a Const. cover to something like what Imran was envisioning in late 2021 while working with some top Generals. The idea was not bad then nor bad now, in theory at least: Political stability and continuation of policies for at least ten years. Even Imran, as the PM, had major issues with the 18th Amendment which gave away too much Federal power to the Provinces. In the ongoing discussions, the PPP, grown used to the large sums of money given to Sindh, is resisting giving away the largesse which they blow away in corruption in Sindh.
But let's understand and appreciate what we have now: It is a 'Hybrid' system where the military is more dominant then ever since Zia's National Assembly of the 80s. What the Pakistanis are trying to do is to stabilize and grow the the economy, make the defense stronger, and ready to face India again and that war may come any time! The 27 Const. Amendment is a long term plan and I actually cautiously welcome it!

Sadly, our military rulers often gain legitimacy when Western powers need Pakistan for their dirty operations or protect their international interest. Khawaja Asif, to his credit, occasionally speaks the truth as he did in a recent interview.

Why don't they adopt the Chinese system make a single national party which elects its leader focus on the nation and do away with this pointless joke of a system.

China historically always under one man or one party rule. Han or Qing dynasty, also Chinese are one nation, we are compose of 4 different cultures , all four totally different and religion is binding force.

A big change this time around is that instead of only screwing over the civilians and politicians, this change is significantly altering the structure of the military itself.

How are the PAF and PN taking this? What deliberation was done over this? It's nothing but a power grab. We will be seeing multiple amendments and other changes once all the loopholes start getting exposed and structural inefficiencies come to the fore.

As I said, fast track to Egypt.

I try to compare it to Pakistan.
I went to Egypt for 1 month last year, they built many new cities and are building many more, people use electricity, AC, gas for one month and pay 60 dollars bill, in Pakistan it would be easily 300 dollars, the food prices are not bad. 109M population and economy is 349B, growth 4.27 2025, Pakistan is 256M population, economy 410B, growth 2.6% 2025.

The sad reality of Egypt’s militarized economy ain’t very different from Pakistan’s:

@PakAI I was reading alright until that Egyptian line came. Let me tell you one thing regarding the real estate you mentioned and the rise of new cities that often mask real issues in developing countries: The real estate market can redirect investment from more productive parts of the economy, such as research and development or other enterprises, toward rent-seeking activities, which kill long-term growth. This is an issue that plagues Pakistan.

In my opinion, Egypt is a good example of what Pakistan is or will be.

ISLAMABAD: Amid a boycott by opposition lawmakers, a joint meeting of the Senate and the National Assembly’s law and justice standing committees on Sunday approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill with minor changes.

The bill aims to set up a federal constitutional court and grant permanent immunity to the president as well as lifetime status to the field marshal rank, amid criticism that the amendment will erode the judiciary’s independence.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who also attended the meeting, said all key amendments, including changes to Article 243, were amicably approved by both committees. In response to a question about amendments to Article 243, Mr Dar said that all the amendments have been approved. The said article pertains to the military command structure.






Senator Farooq H. Naek, who was presiding over the meeting, said the bill was adopted with minor changes. He said that the committees empowered him and the law minister to make a couple of amendments.

The committees, however, deferred the proposals of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) seeking to amend Article 140 related to local governments as well as the Awami National Party’s (ANP) amendment for changing the name of the province.

The ANP submitted a proposal to rename Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by removing ‘Khyber’, arguing that Khyber is a district and other provinces do not include district names in provincial titles. Likewise, the Balochistan National Party’s proposed amendment to increase the seats in the province was also deferred.

Earlier in the day, ANP’s Hidayatullah Khan had told reporters that the committee had sought time until tomorrow (Monday) to decide on his party’s suggestion for changing the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told reporters it was decided that provinces be taken into confidence on changing the province’s name. MQM-P’s suggestion regarding local governments was also discussed, he said, adding that it was decided that provinces be taken into confidence on changing the province’s name. Mr Tarar further said that the report of the committees would be tabled before the Senate on Monday (today).

Opposition boycott

The standing committees met on Sunday to discuss the proposed bill for the 27th Constitutional Amendment a day after it was tabled in the Senate. This bill was approved by the federal cabinet on Saturday hours before it was presented in the upper house of parliament. As Senator Farooq H. Naek chaired the meeting, the PTI, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) and the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) continued their boycott of the parliamentary committee.

Referring to the JUI-F’s absence, the law minister had stated its members had informed the committee on Saturday about their party’s policy. He emphasised that parliamentary parties should utilise their right to vote, rather than boycotting the process altogether.

The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), which includes the PTI, announced a nationwide protest movement against the 27th Amendment, urging the people to take a stand against the “extremely dark and dangerous” change in the Constitution.






Separately, PPP’s MNA Kasim Gilani, in a tweet summarised, that the 27th Constitutional Amendment “mainly touches 5 key areas: establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court, transfer of judges (Article 200), fixing the KP Senate election anomaly, [two per cent] cabinet size increase on smaller provinces’ demand (Article 130(6)), [and] amendments in Article 243 on defence services & presidential immunity”.
