Pakistan General Elections 2024

Lanat on the traitors of the British Indian Army.

I have always said that when Kayani overthrew Musharraf and made Zardari the President of Pakistan it was a bigger disaster than the fall of Dhaka. At least at that time the British Indian Army put up a small fight before surrendering en masse to their Hindu superiors. There was some hope for the remainders of Pakistan. But when the generals made Zardari the president it showed total and absolute moral degradation and degeneracy.

Musharraf wasn’t the best but he kept the Sharif and Zardari crime families down. After the ISI under Kayani overthrew Musharraf it has been a disastrous 14-15 years in Pakistan’s history.

Now we’re back to Zardari and Sharif. It’s a hopeless situation. Luckily 80% of my family have left Pakistan and most of the remaining ones are planning to leave.

What a disaster.

Govt to form small cabinet of competent people, says Ataullah Tarar

PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar has said that the government will form a small cabinet of competent people.

Speaking on Geo News programme Naya Pakistan, he said this way a “good message will be sent to the people”.

“A small cabinet has to be formed,” Tarar added. “The PM’s vision is to allot ministries to those who work hard and can take the country out of crisis.”

Terming the incumbent coalition government alliance as “exemplary”, Tarar said the Federation has become strong due to PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari being elected as the next president.

“We had a good meeting with him earlier,” Tarar said. “They thought it was better for them to take constitutional positions. This doesn’t mean that they won’t be included in policy formation.”

PTI’s Ali Muhammad Khan says he expected more from Dr Alvi as president

PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan has said that he expected more from outgoing President Dr Arif Alvi when the party was going through tough times.

Speaking on Geo News programme Naya Pakistan, he said it won’t be appropriate to comment on Alvi’s legacy just a day after he received a guard of honour and is leaving the presidency.

“He is one of the most senior leaders,” Ali Muhammad said. “Maybe he was helpless due to the situation. All these things will be analysed as time passes by.”

Karachi has no guts, all jumped from PTI. Very sad !!

Achakzai requests Nawaz to control charged political environment

PkMAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has requested PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to tell the saner elements in his party to control the charged political environment.

Speaking to the media at the Parliament House today, he said: “You (Nawaz) may not like your opponents but a huge population of the country has voted for them.”

“We have to bear and take care of each other. It can be done in a way. Why are we taking parliamentary problems being taken to court?” he added.

Achakzai noted that it would be better if the charged political environment could be controlled because the country was embroiled in myriad problems.

“We are small, [but our] problems are big. Our small mistakes will destroy everything, I request for the sake of the country that we have to sit together to resolve it,” he concluded.

“The most unusual thing about this election was that the first time it has happened votes were neither bought nor sold,” he said while speaking to the media In Islamabad.

“There are some people in Pakistan who think that everything can be bought and sold he Pakistan,” he said, adding that there is a distinction growing between people who could be bought and those can be not.

The reliability and consistency of the policies of this government will also be an issue. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will have to tread very carefully as stakeholders involved in government formation are more than one.

He has the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other creditors to think about as well.

Then there is the issue of the provenance of the new government. If we keep in mind the elections that have provided the seats for this new coalition, then we are faced with the prospect of an unpopular government that simply lacks the goodwill of the people to carry out what even might be vital financial sacrifices.

This lack of goodwill, and depending on the pain caused by any structural adjustment program or new tax schemes, can lead to an intensified crisis. Any crisis can undermine the future reform agenda.

Pakistan is embarking on a new chapter in its history, following the February 8, 2024 elections, with almost all political parties, except Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)—PMLN—voicing concerns about electoral transparency. Notwithstanding these reservations, political parties securing clear mandates, excluding PMLN in National Assembly, have formed governments in the centre and provinces, either singularly or with the support of coalition partners.

Notably, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has commenced its fourth consecutive term in the province of Sindh, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) its third consecutive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK. In an astounding development,

Maryam Nawaz (though allegations are that she did not get winning votes) has assumed the charge of Chief Minister in Punjab, becoming the first woman to hold this office and fourth person from the Sharif family to govern the most populous province of the country.

Similarly, Sarfaraz Ahmad Bugti has taken oath of Chief Minister of Baluchistan. These transitions mark notable development in Pakistan’s political landscape, signaling a continuation of political party dominance in certain regions while also ushering in new leadership dynamics.

Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan enjoy an advantageous position compared to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as their leadership has successfully formed coalition governments at the center, ensuring strong governmental support.

However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, might face a unique challenge due to absence of talks with main political rivals, PPP and PMLN, which could potentially create issues in governing the province effectively.

In this situation, PTI needs effective leadership and strategic decision-making for overcoming potential challenges and fostering development and progress in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It is a fact that following the groundbreaking 18th Constitutional Amendment, aimed at enhancing provincial autonomy through devolution of powers, there were high expectations that a positive competitive spirit would prevail among provinces leading to improvement in public services.

After 18thAmendment, Article 167(4), has brought about a significant transformation in the fiscal aspects of the country, moving away from a predominantly centralized model towards one that prioritizes decentralization within the federation.

This paradigm shift has not only strengthened the framework of governance at the domestic level but has also empowered provincial administrations with greater autonomy. The amendment has led to a reconfiguration of power dynamics, facilitating a more balanced distribution of resources and responsibilities across provinces.
