Starting to watch a good discussion about what happened in the early morning hours of May 10. So far into the video, hard to say from this discussion what really happened but there was a critical American (and other countries') role, and that both India and Pakistan wanted the ceasefire, and that Americans really leaned on the parties as the fear grew that Pakistan was readying more lethal missiles launches which were nuclear capable.
Long video but was well worth watching. Some take away:
1) We may 'never' know what really happened in the early morning hours of May 10 except both countries wanted to de-escalate and there were the strong foreign intervention to stop to the next step of the escalation ladder, especially by Pakistan's use of stronger missiles.
2) Modi has placed a new doctrine where even fringe militant groups in Kashmir with no connection to Pakistan can cause the two nuclear armed countries, who are already on a higher rung of the escalation ladder for the long / permanent terms, to go to a major war.
3) Per the Nepalese guy, all South Asian capitals should condemn the 'abrogation' of the Indus Water Treaty.
4) Per the Pakistani guy, while it may take a while for India to divert/stop water, India can harm Pakistan using water even now.
5) There was a consensus in the video about the abysmally low quality of the Indian media during this conflict to the point where Modi himself maybe a 'hostage' to the jingoism that he/his party created.
6) Indians have calculated that even if China uses water as weapon on the Brahmaputra River, the impact will not amount to much because that river takes a lot of water from the heavy rains in that region.
7) Pakistani guy saying India has not given even an 'iota' of evidence about the Pahalgam attack and is using that attack as an excuse to get out of IWT, which India wanted to do and has now achieved.
Guys and gals: In light of all these, unless there is a change in the political leadership in India and/or a change in the BJP leadership, I think it is fair to conclude that India simply wanted the water from the Indus River to sustain its unsustainably large population. Pakistan should prepare and mobilize to take the India Occupied Kashmir back otherwise there won't be a 'Pakistan' left.
