Indian airline to terminate deal with Turkish carrier

NEW DELHI: An Indian airline has decided to terminate its leasing agreement with Turkish Airlines by Aug 31 after India’s aviation regulator said on Friday it would only extend the deal for three months, a move that will push the carrier to seek alternatives.

The agreement between the two airlines has come under public criticism in India after Turkiye came out in support for Pakistan during the recent conflict.

The pact has also been opposed by IndiGo’s rival Air India, which has lobbied the Indian government to end the deal, citing business impact and security concerns.

India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation said it had denied IndiGo’s request for a six-month extension and approved only three months, citing passenger convenience. The lease was due to expire on Saturday.

The regulator said IndiGo gave an undertaking that it will terminate the lease with state-owned Turkish Airlines by Aug 31 and will not seek a further extension.

The airline has previously defended the Turkish partnership, saying it offers multiple benefits to Indian travellers and boosts aviation growth and jobs.

Turkiye’s support for Pakistan during the recent conflict has sparked a boycott of Turkish products, including chocolates, coffee and clothing, in India.

Step 1: IAF spokesperson didn't deny losses
Step 2: Indian general accepted losses
Step 3: Announcing numbers and types of losses

First two steps done. Third one to happen soon

Stay tuned guys

The indian air chief clearly stated that it DOESN'T matter how many were lost but HOW they were lost. Concentrate on the HOWs.

Let the Indians cry. I like it.

India will try one last move ....Indian Navy will do some silly work sooner or later....to divert indian audience ...currently anti govt noise is on the rise.

India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan confirmed on Saturday that his country’s fighter jets were shot down by Pakistan during the four-day conflict earlier in the month.

Indian fighter jets were shot down by the Pakistan Air Force on the night of May 6-7 in response to the Indian Air Force’s late-night missile strikes at six Pakistani sites, including Subhan Mosque in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur East, Bilal Mosque in Muzaffarabad, Abbas Mosque in Kotli, Umalkura Mosque in Muridke, the village of Kotki Lohara in Sialkot district, and Shakargarh.

Pakistan took down six Indian jets, including three advanced French Rafale planes. According to a Dawn report, the recent clash between India and Pakistan marks a significant development in the regional air power constellation. Three Rafales, one Su-30MKI, one Mirage 2000 and one MiG-29 were downed within a 40-minute span. Not one Pakistani jet crossed the border or engaged in close combat.

American newspaper The Washington Post also verified visual evidence that at least two French-made Indian fighter aircraft were shot down by the Pakistan Air Force.

The paper based its findings on analyses by former US Army explosive ordnance disposal technician Trevor Ball, Etienne Marcuz, an associate fellow at the Foundation for Strategic Research and an anonymous French air power expert.

“In a review of more than a dozen images and videos posted online in the aftermath of the strikes, The Post verified debris consistent with at least two French-made fighter jets flown by the Indian Air Force — a Rafale and a Mirage 2000,” The Post reported.

So the Indian Air Force was grounded after one hour fight with PAF. We all knew this. This is why India had to rely on ground launched missiles and drones once it knew a ceasefire was imminent in order to save some face. Indians are now admitting the same. @Fatman17 @Waz

These two points have been highlighted:

1. IAF jets were grounded

2. Targeting at long-range = once back in operations the IAF jets were flying at a safe distance from the border, away from PL-15 range and electronic jamming by PAF.

I think Indian CDS has done his country a big favor by speaking the truth. Sooner or later more concrete evidence would have come out (not that it hasn't already) and it won't be logical to keep rewriting the "notion of victory" script.

india is at least 7× bigger than Pakistan. It has the FULL backing of the west, america, israel and russia. Yet despite these near impossible odds, Pakistan was able to severely batter, humiliate and castrate india on the world stage. Out of ALL the countries in the world, name ONE other country apart from Pakistan that has managed to achieve this feat. Let that thought just sink in.
I am not taking anything away from Pakistan, the only thing for our learning is that reading of India is incorrect. If we want to deter India, more needs to be done.

Two mistakes here in my understanding,

1 - PAF didn't follow the same ROE after 7th May, even when we knew the result of 7th May, which resulted in IAF lobbing missiles at PAF bases.
2 - Downing of 6 or 10 jets is not enough cost for India for the misadventure they did in Pakistan. The cost should be visible for everyone to see. Moral high ground or little embarrassment means nothing in wars.

Bottom line is that I totally agree with the take away of one article which explicitly said "Both sides have failed to deter each other".

Agreed that Pakistan’s “restrain & maturity” allowed India to regroup and fire missiles and drones into Pakistan. Pakistan had a clear opportunity to make India pay a much higher price for its transgressions but it didn’t. This was due to the machinations of the Pakistan army leadership. If India dominated Pakistan on the first day, you can bet your bottom dollar that India would have taken full advantage of the dominance and inflicted serious cost on Pakistan.

For the first time,India's Chief of Defence Staff was forced to admit that multiple Indian fighter jets were shot down by Pakistan.
