Benedict Smith is a test pilot and an assistant director at the French government
Flight Test Centre. He previously served in the French Air Force for 32 years, first in
operational squadrons, where he flew the Mirage 2000C, and later as an experi-
mental test pilot, taking part in the development of the Rafale. He was subsequently assigned to various posts, including Defence Attaché to Greece and India, and later became Chief of Staff of the French military delegation to NATO. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Test Pilot School, the French War college and the National Defenses College in New Delhi. He holds an engineering degree from the École Poly-technique in Paris and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Madras.
