Third, Moscow has a longstanding grievance against India for becoming a pawn in the US policy of containing its ally China and for steadily increasing its purchases of US weaponry over the years. Fourth, at present, like China and many others, Russia prefers diplomacy to war in the Iran conflict and recognises the pivotal role being played by Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir's next destination is also expected to be Moscow. The state visit, scheduled for March, was postponed due to regional developments.
