India's dominant religions teach exceptionalism NOT equality or respect for others different to them. Yes they mostly still teach to be a good person and all that but they teach hierarchy for humans.
Indians are indoctrinated with this hierarchy so cannot accept they can't overpower those they consider lower than them i.e. Chinese, Muslims etc.
The remaining path of least resistance psychologically for Indians is to become exceptional at cognitive dissonance. It's the only thing that reconciles their perception of being so great and the reality of their poor military performance (indeed also their poor economic and industrial performance too). I have to say, while Pakistan is better at this than Indians, it is no stranger to spinning some fantasy and believing in comforting things too. Then again, Western nations are not that much better and even East Asian ones that foster self doubt and shame from a young age are no strangers to placating. Luckily, they are just a lot more competent and have to do it less than India.
