Their depth allows them to keep things away from our reach...but that's no necessarily a bad thing, it means it will take them longer to mobiles and reach us, which allows us to see them longer before they reach us. In contrast, our close proximity to them ensures a rapid response from our side, reducing our reaction time. This leads to relatively short, but intense exchanges. Time is of the essence, and how much mass you can bring down per unit time, to achieve destruction of your targets. That's where I think the Pakistani response was lacking, they took too long, and the response was too little too late. It should have been more intense, and at a more rapid pace.
