Any monopoly is bad.
In the context of this thread: I don't think the Arif Habib group, which has committed Rs. 135 billion to purchase PIA, is going to tolerate a minor stakeholder, even if FFC/Military, to have a major 'say' in the affairs. It is good that FFC is involved.
The PIA takeover by a private company has the blessing of the military and more drastic measures are coming up under the protective umbrella of the recently passed 27th Amendment. I think it is going to be 'Perform or Perish'

They need to sack 1000s of workers. Some people never worked for PIA and get pensions, all safarishi and blackmailers must be kicked out. PIA can be very profitable business if only corruption, nepotism is removed and is run professionally. Pak Steel Mills is another one, we are loosing billions because of it.

Before leaving, they secured the livelihood of their lotas by tying the nose around our necks. Just like Bhutto, the old PIA ab bi zinda hai.

We need to understand a few basic facts about PIA and its privatization.
  1. PIA is almost a trash in terms of aircraft and staff. All aircraft are very old, most of them leased, and have a a life of no more than a couple of years left in them.
  2. PIA is overstaffed and that too with incompetent politically hired non-productive people (mostly by PPP). It was a milking cow for these political parties and their workers. PIA was reportedly suffering from a daily loss of Rs150 million and Government of Pakistan was making it up with money from the public exchequer.
  3. PIA has significant facilities/workshops for normal maintenance and repair of airplanes. Again these facilities are overstaffed with incompetent or even unqualified people.
  4. PIA used to have a good software development center with qualified staff. It used to develop software not only for itself but also for international customers. The current state of that wing is unknown.
  5. On the positive side PIA has some best routes to destinations all over the world. If the new owners could really utilize these routes then PIA will easily become a very profitable airline.
  6. The location of Pakistani airports is also ideal for global air traffic. There used to be a time when Karachi used to serve as a hub for PIA. Travelers from all over the world (Far East, Chine, Japan, Middle-East, Africa, Europe, and America) would use it as a transit. There was a time when every passenger traveling to China would first land in Karachi and then take a PIA flight to China.
PIA would fetch in the passengers to Karachi and then offer forwarding flights to everywhere. Currently, leaving alone the travelers from other countries, even Pakistanis have to transit at Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, or Istanbul airport while traveling to or from Pakistan.

By getting the latest planes, good management, and friendly service of the highest quality, PIA can attain that status again. Foreign airlines are currently catering almost all Pakistani travelers only because PIA miserably failed to serve them.

With its ownership in private hands, one can expect that PIA will quickly get rid of its incompetent staff, manage its resources professionally, acquire new aircrafts, and raise the standard of its service to the highest level. It's already being reported that the new management will re-evaluate every position and re-interview every staff member to get rid of the issue of over-staffing.

It's also worth mentioning that government of Pakistan made several attempts in the past to privatize PIA. The political and elite mafias, however, always rendered those efforts into a failure. This time around, it's, in fact, the danda of Field Marshal Asim Munir that is keeping those mafias at bay.

But again, people could benefit from the short video I posted of Shabbar Zaidi. I wish people don't bring Pakistan's domestic politics into every thread.
