We did recently. It's a total disaster. Half the entertainment systems were not working and it was very stressful for us to keep the kids occupied. They were disappointed and the airline crew couldn't care less. We flew from Toronto to Islamabad and swore never PIA again.

I wouldn't recommend PIA to my worst enem.

It is pretty bad but, IMO, beats a layover.

my family flew Toronto-Islamabad-Toronto on PIA this year in April. We always fly economy so don't know about business class, its old too and needs refurbishing.

Seats reclined, food was good for a 12-hr flight.
However, there is NO IFE. Don't expect it to work, it hasn't for decades.

Most people bring their own laptops, ipads, phones etc for entertainment.

The crew feeds u, then they force all the window blinds shut to kinda force people to sleep/rest, serve a small snack in between, and then wake everyone for the final meal 2-3 hrs before landing.

Toronto is served by the 2 x B777LRs PIA has, which are AP-BGY and AP-BGZ.
Currently BGY is flying these days I guess BGZ is inactive due to maintenance?

Out of the 12 B777 right now, it is sad that only 5 are operating/active. Its a sad state of affairs that the longhaul jets are inactive due to needing parts of cannibalization.
I think one of the B777 was damaged by a airport vehicle/truck years ago and it was a big damage, likely never fly again.....its probably cannibalized for parts and now is a dustbin! they purposely ruined a B777 these dumb idiots at the airports

there is a "history of pia" forum where u can get news from PIA fanboys regularly and know whats going on. Thats my source of news too.

This photograph is from 1965, showing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostesses standing on the runway of Karachi Airport.

Until 1955, Pakistan did not have a national airline of its own. Therefore, a privately-owned company, Orient Airways, was brought into the national framework and renamed Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

By the 1970s, PIA was considered one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world. However, from the 1980s onwards, this national symbol of pride for Pakistan began to lose the high standards that once set it apart. There was a time when newly established airlines from other countries looked to PIA for guidance and inspiration.

It is pretty bad but, IMO, beats a layover.

Not if your flight is delayed so long that they had to get another plane for the next day. Happened to us in Toronto and we were flying in connecting flight. The Hotel refused to accept PIA vouchers due to non-payment by the airline. We were forced to get our own paid hotel.

PIA... Never again

ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel was told on Monday that four out of five companies that submitted statements of qualification (SOQs) for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been declared eligible.

Secretary for Privatisation informed the Senate Standing Committee that site visits and conferences were underway, after which the bidding phase will begin.

During the committee meeting, chaired by Senator Afnanullah on Monday, the privatisation of PIA, Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC), as well as power generation companies (GENCOs) and distribution companies (DISCOs) came under discussion.

Members of the committee suggested removing PMDC from the privatisa-tion list, while the committee also summoned National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) officials to discuss the privatisation of DISCOs.

Briefing the committee, the joint secretary of the Power Division said that eight out of nine issues at Nandipur and four out of nine at Guddu have been resolved.

He added that two GENCO plants remain on the privatisation list and that both DISCOs and GENCOs are currently undergoing the privatisation process.

The secretary for privatisation remarked that institutions making profits today may not necessarily remain profitable in the future.

"The government's role is not to run power plants or transport companies. After privatisation, the government will earn revenue, while the private sector will improve performance and recovery," he said.

The chief financial officer of PMDC informed that the corporation gener-ates an annual revenue of Rs5.40 billion and produces 1.5 million tonnes of salt annually.

On PIA, the secretary for privatisation reiterated that five companies had submitted SOQs, four of which were declared eligible.
