After meeting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Lahore, Iran’s President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Islamabad on Saturday.

During the meeting, issues relating to bilateral relations and regional security situation were discussed, the PML-N said.

President Pezeshkian is on a two-day official visit to Pakistan. The distinguished guest was received by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation at the Islamabad airport, the PM Office said.

Pezeshkian is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and top officials.

During his stay, the Iranian president is scheduled to hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. High-level delegation-level talks between Pakistan and Iran will also take place during the visit.

The visit aims to enhance bilateral cooperation and deepen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries.

This marks President Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office, a significant step expected to further strengthen the brotherly ties between the two neighboring countries.

‘Crucial visit’

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Saturday said the Iranian delegation would spend a busy day in Pakistan to further advance the bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

“This is a very crucial visit as the Iranian President is visiting on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” the minister said, adding their meeting took place in Azerbaijan that was further supplemented with a successful visit of the prime minister to Iran along with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

I think there's been a massive realisation between Pakistan and Iran in 2025 that they both need each other in a fast changing world.

Both Pakistan and Iran have been attacked this year by fascist India and fascist Zion unprovoked. Pakistan lacked depth and Iran lacked air defence.

THE focus of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan, which wrapped up on Sunday, was trade and security, and the challenge before Tehran and Islamabad remains translating the many deals and MoUs signed during the talks into concrete agreements.

This is mainly so because of the poor relations between the US and Iran, particularly the former’s sanctions that threaten any state wishing to expand ties with Tehran. The visit is significant as it comes after the June Iran-Israel war, in which the US also participated, and at a time when geopolitical alliances are shifting rapidly.

Dr Pezeshkian and his delegation met the top civilian and military leaders of the country. Among the matters discussed was the bloodbath in Gaza; the Iranian leader also appreciated Pakistan’s support during the Israeli aggression.

Dr Pezeshkian expressed his desire to raise bilateral trade to $10bn, while the need to jointly combat terrorism, especially along the border in Balochistan, was also discussed. The Iranians further sought to join Pakistan and China in expanding regional trade as part of the Silk Road initiative. At least 12 MoUs and deals were signed covering various sectors. Of course, the elephant in the room is US sanctions; unless both sides address this irritant, it will be difficult to achieve the economic goals both Pakistan and Iran desire.

Perhaps the biggest casualty of foreign sanctions has been the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline; Tehran has completed the project at its end, while Pakistan is wary of finalising the scheme lest it attract Washington’s wrath.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised an “early resolution” to the pipeline issue when he was in Iran in May, but the issue did not come up during the Iranian leader’s visit, at least not publicly. It appears that Pakistan is willing to import petroleum from the US in order to satisfy the Trump administration, and is not willing to import Iranian gas for fear of annoying the US. Unless the pipeline imbroglio is settled amicably, without fear of foreign pressure, Pakistan may have to fight an ugly arbitration battle, which will harm ties with Iran.

Along with trade, militant groups reportedly active on both sides of the border must be neutralised so that they are unable to damage ties. In 2024, due to the malign activities of armed non-state actors, both capitals traded missile fire; thankfully, the issue was resolved before things could escalate.

But it serves as a reminder of how militant groups can create highly volatile situations. Pakistan indeed must walk a tightrope between Washington and Tehran. But while we must maintain good ties with the US, it is essential to have cordial relations with a neighbour with whom we share a long border, and a long history.

India was meant to be a net-security provider for the region, but it has itself become a problem in itself creating tension with Pakistan and not China, and that has caused the recalibration, alongside its ineffectiveness as an ally against China.

More then one country has complained about India in various countries

Sikhs, Kashmiri, Indian Muslims
Bangladesh, sri lanka, Nepal, Maldives

Where India failed was it became isolated within south Asia, rather then respecting the countries around it, it started declaring itself a regional superpower and south Asia being India's region
It ended up pissing off everyone

Then it started to act smart by killing sikhs citizens in other countries including Canada and the U.S, pissing off those countries

Add to that India trying to act cute, by purchasing Russian oil and then sell it on

I think the conflict with Pakistan was a final straw for the west
Without evidence it attacked a nuclear power
It instigated a conflict that could have dangerously escalated
India ended up defeated and humiliated with no country really standing beside India, not even in the region


India through its own hubris has screwed itself, when all it really had to do was control hindutva at home
Concentrate on its economy
And present a equal rights benign democracy to the world

India made the mistake of letting it's mask slip, and the world saw what Pakistan has always seen
