Are you sure?

In next 5-7 years PN surface fleet would be.
  • 4 - 054A/P FFGs
  • 4 - F22Ps FFGs
  • 4 - Milgem OPVs
  • 4 - Damen OPVs
  • 8 - Jinnah FFGs
Above list includes very contemporary/lethal battleships, & even OHP FFG will not be in active service post 2030.
Really I find most of these sort of "lists" made by various people around here to be quite amusing! (Be it for navy, army or air force)

Hardly any of them are made with actual proper consideration of the information that is known or at least probable. Take for example the above list. We are supposed to have no less than 8 Jinnah class in "5-7" years , when we haven't even built a single one yet! Nor do we know exactly how many have the PN actually planned!

Funny.

What do we have and on order as far as the surface combatants are considered:

4 Zulfiquar Class Light Frigates
1 OHP Class FFG
4 Tughril Class Frigates
4 Babur Class Corvettes various stages of build
2 Yarmook Class Corvettes/OPV Inducted in to the fleet but yet to be fully armed
2 Enlarged Yarmook Class? Corvettes/OPV on order
? Jinnah Class or enlarged Milgem in design phase. Most probably 2+2 but not before 2030 and that too depends upon the economic conditions.

The highest number of surface combatants that PN ever operated were in the 80's when at one point we had:

6 FRAMM II Gearing Class Destroyers (I believe 1 was shifted to MSA as Accommodation hull during this time))
4 Brooke Class FF Frigates
4 Garcia Class FFG Frigates

All of the current fleet is still in the process of accelerated hull degradation due to the corrosive nature of Karachi Harbors polluted waters.

I often avoid engaging in debates with ill-informed or with lack of knowledge people & I won't do so this time either.

Help yourself, buddy. Go to Jinnah Class Thread and get educated.

Exactly, Pakistan maybe able to produce 2 Jinnah FFG by 2035 under ideal conditions. We can see the timelines of previous ship building in Karachi shipyard that explains it. For-example the last of the Azmat class ship (only 600 tonnage ship) ship took more than 4 years.

Yep, In addition to above, PN commissioned 2 Leander class FFGs as well by late 80's. I think all of Gearing were active by then as gearings were inducted in early 80s / late 70s.

All of the current fleet is still in the process of accelerated hull degradation due to the corrosive nature of Karachi Harbors polluted waters.

Exactly, there were reports in the past about this issue. PN needs atleast one more naval base. (in addition to ormara)

I think, the guy you are referring to was right. Getting 6-8 Jinnah FFGs is IMPOSSIBLE in next 5-7 years even if construction to start today. Naval ship building is generally painfully slow and its even slower in Pakistan's case. Pakistan has only 1 shipyard and its quite busy because of existing projects, the 220 ton boat project and then more importantly the Hangor class subs. Lastly, till date I have not seen a single official statement regarding the number of Jinnah FFGs. If you have seen any PN statement regarding the number of Jinnah frigates to be built then do share.

IMO the F-22Ps will age out by the time the Jinnah-class FFG fleet is at full strength (2040?).

Not only that, but the Damen OPV fleet could grow via the Batch-II design. After discussing the first two OPVs, ex-CNS Adm. Abbasi said that six ships of 'larger tonnage' were contracted.

The PN set a goal for 20 'major surface vessels' (MSV):
  • 4 Tughril-class Frigates (4,000+ tons)
  • 4 Babur-class ASW Corvettes (2,900+ tons)
  • 6 Jinnah-class frigates (3,400+ tons)
You'll notice there are 14 MSVs. The remaining 6 could be the Damen Batch-II OPVs, or some other type of vessel(s), like another frigate type.

As we both discussed & agreed earlier in other thread (Jinnah-class) for the its design, construction pattern, tonnage, weapon packages & timeline. Which are:
  • Built in batches (2+2+4).
  • Design has been based on AS3400(2) & AS3600(2+4) with different VLS layouts.
  • Since the construction has been initiated already of first batch (construction pattern - in batches) hence 2040 timeline is far-off to reach to full strength; at most, it will happen by 2032–2033.
The big tonnage FFGs you are referring to will therefore be Jinnah-class, and Damen OPVs (1900t/2300t) will perform patrolling duties with F22Ps (IMO will not be phased out soon & will have extensive MLUs in due course of time) & forthcoming 20 FACs (Swift class).

PN "MSV" fleet most probably in between 20 - 24 vessels by 2032-35:
  • 4 - 054A/Ps
  • 4 - Milgem CORVs
  • 4 - F22Ps (MLU ??)
  • 4 - Damen OPVs (1900t/2300t)
  • 6/8 - Jinnah-class FFGs

The remaining 6 could be the Damen Batch-II OPVs, or some other type of vessel(s), like another frigate type.

I think the two under construction batch-II OPVs are scheduled to be delivered soon. According to this article, these will be delievered in feb & aug 2024. (https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2022/10/damen-lays-keel-of-first-opv-2600-for-pakistan-navy/)

Mostly likely these will be unarmed at this stage - like earlier batch-1 (Yarmooks). PN can install SSM launchers itself, but how about the VLS & point defense ? Is there any info on how and when PN will get those configured ?

Hi,

Thank you for your post.

The fire power of the 054's far exceeds the fire power of the whole fleet we had in the past.

The current 054's are no walkovers but may possibly be ahead in the game---.

PN needs a next gen missile that can be easily modified for shore or ship/sub use, and of course , lethal af, preferably high supersonic/hypersonic....ship numbers are less relevant....

Indeed...

But can't understand the logic why PN didn't go for TAS with 054A/Ps?
