Pakistan Navy | News & Discussions

Interestingly in last 3 months all service chiefs toured the us. Something big is coming beyond some defence procurement. Some large scale government to government defence agreement with US that fully makes use of our MNNA status is most likely. Maybe some formal agreement for Pakistani troops to replace US forces in military bases across the middle east starting in saudia

I was thinking that. As US withdraws from cmmitments globally makes sense for Pakistan to take on security provider role in Mid East, we certainly have the manpower, experience and skill set.

There needs to be political will, agreement with US and a massive influx of new equipment. Unless these conditions are met it will be difficult

The biggest problem really is us election cycles completely changing the strategic calculus any decision taken right now has to account for the fact that MAGA republicans must be in power in 2028

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment towards cooperation with the United States over matters of maritime security during a visit to the country, the military’s media wing said on Friday.

The Pakistani and US Navy share a long-standing relationship. In September, the US Navy ship USS Wayne E. Meyer departed from Karachi on a two-day port call, strengthening the enduring maritime cooperation between the Pakistan Navy and the US Navy.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, “Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, visited [the] United States of America as part of ongoing efforts to further strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and defence engagements.”

Over the course of the visit — which concluded last Friday — Admiral Ashraf met with the US Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Vice Admiral Yvette Davids, and Acting Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr.

“Matters of professional interest, regional security dynamics, and avenues for professional training and maritime cooperation were discussed during these meetings,” the statement said.

In a visit to the National Defence University (NDU) at Fort Lesley J. McNair, the naval chief met with the university’s president, Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin.

The meeting “encompassed deliberations on politico-military cooperation, maritime security, capacity-building initiatives, and shared maritime interests,” ISPR said.

Admiral Ashraf also met the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Stanley L. Brown, the statement added.

The naval chief addressed a gathering of US scholars and think-tank experts, the statement said, highlighting “regional maritime security challenges and Pakistan Navy’s contributions towards collaborative maritime efforts.”

As per ISPR, the visit “reflects the enduring defence ties between Pakistan and the United States, reaffirming the mutual commitment to promoting maritime security in the region and beyond.”

The development comes amid improving ties between Pakistan and the US.

Nothing that benefits Pakistan is ever getting past US Congress...

Congress is so far up Trump's ass when they spit it comes out of his mouth, Indian influence greatly diminished.

For sure we will not get anything very high end, but China now fills that gap for us

I don't see anything coming out of this particular engagement. One of the photo ops seems to be taking place in a basement office!!

I have always seen it as a ruse. Presidential administration lobby the Congress to have the deals go through. There are examples of getting things done even when Congress stands on the other side of things. If Congress is continuously disapproving or rejects something, I see it as a half-hearted attempt by the administration. Clinton used to pull this trick on us all the time.

True, make it out as if the President is trying but Congress got in the way.

However I think this time it is very different. Passion for standing up for India seems to have been lost and if Trump wants to do a deal with Pak, woe betide any Republican standing in his way. Trump has neutered Congress's power to a large extent.

Issue is do we actually want to toe ourselves to any big ticket US weapons platforms?

In the naval domain US offers very little, no AIP conventional subs, no Frigates. We already have Sea Sultan coming on board as LRMPA.

I think value in US could be in some subsystems and maybe spare parts for P-3C/OHP

We do however desperately need a new and modern shipborne chopper.

Me too - I think they are tea and biscuits meeting, only because Pakistan has no money. If it has to buy at cost price J10CE's on such large loan terms for repayment, then there is not much left in the kitty for anything else.

People often forget but US offers a lot of equipment without much fuss if its for PMSA and PCG given the counter narcotics and anti terrorism/piracy role they play. We already have some ex USCG cutters i believe some more would be much appreciated along with civvilian helos and fast boats to catch smugglers

Yeah, no harm in smaller platforms. Also USN has an incredible amount of leftover kit we can get our hands on via EDA

P-3Cs spares
Phalnax
SH-60s

Quite a bit of used kit that could come in handy. Who knows, maybe even a couple of more OHPs to help us bulk up numbers?

As far as remember those were approved but never delivered .... This was the reason we opted for Chinese gun boats

I have observed this pattern. No democrat/ long term senator prefers to touch Pakistan with a ten foot pole. All the concessions Pakistan has achieved are through direct presidential orders, largely bypassing Congress, and that too mostly Republican presidents.

Democrats have misplaced self-righteousness about themselves and Pakistan does not fit the profile of their perceived friend or ally. In fact, we can say the same for the entire Muslim world. Of course, if you have money like the Gulf states even Democrats will put their mis/perceptions and predispositions aside for you.
