Salman bhai living my dream life, getting paid get to shoot guns, a lot of new ideas half baked implementation, design fever dream rifles

I dunno for what reason they fumbled this opportunity
My take is that basically all the rifles at the test didn't bring nothing new to the table and were also very expensive investments. Also I heard there were issues about exports which were needed by POF to offset the initial costs.

The G3 actually performed well which is collaborated by Russian researcher Vladimir Onokoy

"The old G3 was tested alongside FN SCAR, Beretta ARX 200, CZ Bren 2, and other modern rifles. It was a smart decision to see how much of an edge modern platforms give over the old G3.
Turns out - not that much. In terms of ballistics, accuracy, and reliability, G3 performed very well, despite the fact that rifles used in trials were ordinary guns from army warehouses, often slightly used, not some custom-made guns created specifically for the trials."

To me (and I could be wrong) the BW20 family is POF's middle path between modernization and a whole new rifle system

Minor correction, during the test, a rifle did win (I forgot which one) but wasn't adopted bc of the cost, PA wanted it for a lower price. This is from old forum, you can go their and look it up for more details. Regarding the AK, PA did reached an agrrement with Russia but that deal fell bc POF wanted to sell the rifle under their banner as well which Russia didn't agree with

According to an American it was the SCAR which won but was deemed expensive while AK103 was ordered but the deal fell through due to export issue

"Conclusion: No rifle passed all the tests without issues; however, the FN SCAR was the only rifle that was finalized, officially accepted, with licensed manufacturing approved.

However, since the completion of the trials, Pakistan has purchased 140,000 AK 103 rifles. The number of SCAR rifles purchased is zero – too expensive."

I think POF tried to make their own AK in the form of the PK SMG-21 but that ultimately failed due to POF's non familiarity with the gas piston system

That's exactly why I'm a fan of G-3 platform. Old girl needs weight shedding and accessory mounting options without adding extra weight.

This will be revisited, but not as a full Army-wide standard issue rifle. Rather, because we have so many specific units (e.g., LCBs, SSGs, COIN, SSW, SSG-N, etc) that do buy certain rifles, scopes, NVG gear, and even plate carriers, the scale required for a real program is starting to emerge. It'll be even more apparent in the next 2-3 years. I anticipate 1-2 batch orders of about 10-20,000 rifles each in around that time. @Blain2

That seems rather plausible as we are already seeing Turkish SAR 308 AKs going to Balochistan levies while FC is getting Belarussian VSK100s amid rather reliable reports emerging of CW39 being adopted by Marines and Frontier Constabulary

In the meantime, some of the US forces are moving to a bigger round (6.5mm). Although 7.62x51 is heavier, it still has the stopping power and velocity at distance needed on the modern battlefield.

6.5 is only being used as precision round with SF. Fighting rifle caliber for USASOC is still 5.56

This is the start. Always happens the same way. If proven, it starts getting cascaded to other units.
