Babar Azam has been named captain for both series

KARACHI: You may recall that in past when discussions were ongoing about removing Babar Azam from captaincy, such tweets had also surfaced. At that time, Babar, Rizwan, and Shaheen were very close friends. Cricket authorities began to feel that this group had become more powerful than them. All of them were under the “shadow” of the same influence. The entry of new cricketers into the national team was almost blocked, and even selectors had little say. There were reports of dictation being given regarding central contracts. At that point, the board felt that things were getting out of hand.

In such a situation, the classic “divide and rule” policy once used by the British was implemented. Friends were no longer friends. Relationships deteriorated in the race for captaincy, which also harmed the team. Since then, the situation has never truly improved. One incident also came to light where Shaheen told Babar, “If you want to be captain, I will step down.” Babar refused, but just a few days later, he was seen sitting in a press conference as captain, outlining his plans.

In trying to eliminate player power, the board ended up destroying team unity. Although players still sit together now, that old friendship no longer exists. Babar Azam has been made captain multiple times and then removed again. He has a massive fan following; even if the team loses a World Cup under his captaincy, both genuine supporters and those “in the shadows” launch social media campaigns making it seem like Pakistan didn’t play poorly it was the opposition’s fault for playing well.

Pakistan, England ODI series on cards​

Both teams are likely to play five ODIs before World Cup

KARACHI: Discussions have begun regarding Pakistan cricket team’s another tour of England next year. As part of preparations for the World Cup, both teams may play five One Day International (ODI) matches.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup in the ODI format will be held in Bangladesh from June 18 to July 4 next year.

According to details, under the ICC Future Tours Programme(FTP) for 2023–2027, Pakistan’s final scheduled series is set to take place in March against New Zealand, featuring two Test matches. Currently, all cricketing nations are engaged in discussions over the new schedule. Further deliberations are expected during the International Cricket Council’s meeting scheduled to take place in Scotland later this month.


The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also planned to play five ODIs in England next year as part of preparations for the 2027 World Cup. The proposed series may also include one Test match, although details are yet to be finalized.

The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be held from October 4 to November 21 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

This year, from September 24 to October 3, Pakistan’s T20 team will participate in the cricket event at the Asian Games in Japan. During the current season, Pakistan will host Sri Lanka for three T20 matches in October, and a triangular series including England is also planned. The Sri Lankan team will return in November for a two-Test series. Additionally, a triangular series including Zimbabwe will be played.

Later this month, Pakistan will tour the West Indies for two Test matches, followed by a three-Test series in England.

The proposed dates for the next year ODI Asia Cup are June 18 to July 4, to be hosted by Bangladesh. A total of 13 matches will be played in the tournament, featuring Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and one associate team
