Armoured personnel carriers, other vehicles handed over to police in several KP districts​

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Tuesday handed over armoured personnel carriers (APCs), forklift trucks, single and double cabin vehicles and motorcycles along with other equipment to the district police officers and heads of police units to deal with terrorism and unrest.

The handover ceremony was held at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines here, with Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed distributing vehicles, according to an official statement.

Mr Hameed also reviewed the operational capabilities of the armoured vehicles, double cabins and fork lifters and got necessary briefings from officials. Additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior police officials were also present on the occasion.

The statement said that under the effective and public-friendly policing policy in the province, IGP KP handed over the keys of modern Dragon APCs, bulletproof vehicles, single and double cabin vehicles, forklift trucks and motorcycles to the district police officers to better deal with terrorist threats and protect the lives of police personnel.

“In order to effectively respond to terrorist attacks and to make the movement of troops in high-risk areas easier and safer, highly advanced Dragon APCs have been handed over to Tank, Hangu and Upper Swat, while other APCs have been handed over to Upper Dir and Mansehra.”

Cop martyred, another injured in terrorist attack on police post in Bajaur​

BAJAUR: One cop was martyred while another was wounded after terrorists attacked a police post in Bajaur district’s Barang tehsil in the early hours of Friday.

Mansoor Khan, the district police spokesperson, told Dawn that a group of terrorists targeted the police post in Kohi Sar area with rocket launchers and small weapons.

He said that police personnel at the post immediately responded and retaliated. The official said two police personnel were wounded in the exchange of fire, which continued for several hours.

One of the wounded policemen, identified as Constable Zahir Shah, succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a local hospital for treatment, he said.

The other officer, Head Constable Amir Zada, was reported to be out of danger, he added.

“The police personnel at the post bravely retaliated and successfully foiled the terrorists’ nefarious design,” the spokesperson added.

The funeral prayers of the martyred police official were held at Police Lines in Khar, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Adnan Farid, District Police Officer (DPO) Khan Zeb Momand and other officials.

Protest in Bannu and Lakki Marwat Police Peace Committee Over Posting of 6 Police Constables in Bannu

*How dare the DIG issue transfer orders without our permission?*, stance of Police Peace Committee leader and Police Constable Khalid

For the past few months, the Police Peace Committee in Lakki Marwat and Bannu had established a systematic bribery network, under which no transfers were possible without a share being given to Constable Khalid and the Police Peace Committee—

However, the new DIG, upon assuming charge, immediately issued routine transfer orders, which sparked today's issue—

According to details, yesterday, on August 24, routine transfer and posting orders for 6 constables of Bannu Police were issued. Against these orders, members affiliated with the Bannu Police Peace Committee and Lakki Marwat Police Peace Committee began protesting, because these elements have grown accustomed to having their way in police posting and transfer matters.

This is precisely why a protest is being held against a routine administrative decision, and the matter is being deliberately portrayed as a conflict between the police and the army, in an effort to craft a false and misleading narrative against state institutions for the protection of their own interests.

Unfortunately, the Police Peace Committee has also instructed other police personnel to abandon their duties and line up in protest—this is nothing short of interference in government operations—

The question is, who granted the Police Peace Committee, which is protesting over the posting of 6 personnel, the authority to interfere in police administrative affairs?

The provincial government should punish such elements and make an example of them—

State institutions are fighting the war against terrorism. No illegal or unauthorized group has the right to interfere in the administrative matters of state institutions for their personal interests or to attempt to create a false narrative of hatred and conflict between institutions.
