Saudi Arabia and Pakistan already had a defence pact we all know Pakistani troops been stationed in Saudi Arabia since the 80s. They just wrote it down now. Formalising it for the world to see.

I mean geopolitics is fickle. I don’t think anyone expected Israel to attack Qataris yet it happened and the US did nothing or maybe even supported it . Less than a Month later we signed a pact or agreement with Riyadh ? For Saudis it makes sense hedging for Saudis is simply getting a backup, or “insurance” for its defence assurances from Pakistanis . Saudis are not decoupling from the US. On Iran we had excellent relations with Shah of Iran until his over throw. When you say Iran does not help us. I’m not sure a country isolated under brutal sanctions can help us which is very embarrassing for us Pakistanis to be asking help from. And they did build an expensive gas pipe line on their side of the border to supply us gas. For us to do a quick u turn on the whole project.. I doubt Tehran will offer us help if we behave like this .

PM Shehbaz, CDF Munir to visit Saudi Arabia from August 6 to 8​

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, alongside Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, will undertake a visit to Saudi Arabia from August 6 to 8, the Foreign Office (FO) said on Thursday.

In a weekly press briefing, FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the two will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who is currently in Saudi Arabia after concluding a visit to Jordan.

“During the visit, the prime minister will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and discussions will focus on consolidating the Pakistan-Saudi bilateral relationship and exchange views on areas of regional and international developments of mutual interests,” he said.

Dilemma of our system. That lacks single representation / single leader.

Other countries have ALWAYS ONE leader that represents that country. We have to take two people a military chief and a civilian leader ( who according to constitution should be the top boss and true rep of the nation by majority. But in reality has absolutely none of that attribute.)

I don't see MBS and his military chief going together with meeting to any leader. I don't see Erdogan and his military chief OR Putin and his military chief OR Trump and his military chief OR Modi and his general OR any leader of the country and their military chief both going to meet a foreign leader. Unfortunately our system is not based on legitimacy, moral authority, constitution but purely based on individual power game. Its non-functional and unsustainable.

According to the rank, PM sits along the leader of other country. But PM's true boss is also sitting in the same room a little far away. Kind of really weird setup for foreign leaders to adjust too. Who they should be facing to while discussing policy ?

Other leader knows that he is talking to a PM but he don't have authority of the state, while mere an employee (military chief, who falls under ministry of defense) has all the authority and final say.

Maybe just get over with formalities, ranks and power should talk to power directly. One leader goes for talks. Leader to leader meeting. Not a meeting of a leader with group of people. So perhaps better FM can forget about photoshoots & formality for which he takes the PM for. He made him PM not for state's policy decisions but for delegated tasks like const amendments, extension, cities and provinces administration.. and rhymes and praises in regards for sipa salaar.

That is the truth of it as you say. The real and "only" boss is the Army chief - the civilian is there to make sure the tea is served correctly... That is how it works in Pakistan.

But it really isn't a "dilemma" at all. I have no problems with the hybrid governance model per se and it is not some "dirty" term just because the latrine of human civilisation sitting to our east says it is in their propaganda pieces.

Delhi is also very much run by a hybrid autocracy system, whereby the judiciary (and social media) is completely controlled by Modi fanatics, to the point that bizarre mandates are passed in lok sabha willy nilly, purely so that their dear leader may avoid public and objective scrutiny. Their security forces then obviously enforce said dictum. It is ultimately more of a PyongYang model perhaps, rather than an Islamabad model.

Pakistan has no reason to be embarrassed by a now transparent governance model that many self-proclaimed "democracies saar!" also follow themselves, albeit ashamedly and secretively.
