Pakistan Seeks US EXIM Bank Financing for PIA Aircraft, Refinery, and Reko Diq

Both sides also agreed to continue work on a broader cooperation framework while prioritizing specific transactions.
Aurangzeb said PIA was interested in Boeing aircraft, particularly 787 Dreamliners, and sought support for a financing package covering aircraft and engines. He also raised the need for spare parts to bring grounded Boeing 777 aircraft back into service.
The discussions also covered possible financing for aircraft pre delivery payments, while refinery upgrades were identified as another potential area for US EXIM Bank support.
On Reko Diq, Aurangzeb highlighted the project’s importance to Pakistan’s future exports and the cost of delays. He also welcomed US EXIM Bank’s continued commitment to the mining project.
The meeting was part of Aurangzeb’s engagements in New York on the third day of his visit to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly alongside the Prime Minister of Pakistan. During the day, he also participated in the Digital Cooperation Organization’s High Level Ministerial Dialogue, where he discussed digital public infrastructure, cashless payments, workforce skills and Pakistan’s approach to virtual assets.
Aurangzeb said digital transformation was important for Pakistan’s transition from economic stabilization to sustainable growth. He also called for greater cooperation among DCO member states to share successful approaches and attract investment in the digital economy.
