Islamabad United has announced the renewal of its Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise contract for another 10 years, underlining its commitment to cricket in Pakistan and the development of young talent.

Since its inception in 2015, Islamabad United has championed excellence, innovation, and social responsibility, the franchise said in a statement.

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen announces exit from franchise

Tareen says being part of Multan Sultans had been “one of the greatest honours” of his life

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen on Tuesday announced that he is stepping away from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, ending his association with the team.

In a statement posted on X, Tareen said being part of Multan Sultans had been “one of the greatest honours” of his life. He added that he cherished the fans, the team, and the opportunity to represent south Punjab.

He wrote that he always reminded players and staff what it meant to represent a region known for its hard-working people. Despite suffering financial losses every season, he said he never considered walking away.

Tareen acknowledged he “may not be everyone’s favourite,” but stressed that he had always been honest and outspoken. He added that if staying meant compromising his principles, he would rather leave with dignity than continue under pressure.

Calling the decision an “ending,” he urged fans to remember that the team “has always belonged to the people of south Punjab.” He asked supporters to extend the same passion to whoever takes over the franchise next.

It should be noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered renewal contracts to five of the six PSL franchises, barring Sultans, due to an ongoing spat with Tareen.
Tareen has been quite vocal against PSL management’s policies.

December 2, 2025

The Pakistan Super League will look for potential franchise owners in a Roadshow at Lords in London on December 7, it announced on Tuesday.

The league is set to expand from six to eight teams from it’s next edition with an auction to determine the owners of the two new sides.

“The HBL PSL Roadshow is expected to draw a diverse audience of business leaders, potential franchise owners and cricket supporters eager to engage with one of the sport’s most dynamic and fast-growing leagues,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

“As the league prepares for expansion with the addition of two new teams, it has already received significant interest from potential ownership groups across the United Kingdom.”

The London Roadshow aims to build on this momentum by offering investors and cricket lovers an immersive introduction to the league, its commercial ecosystem and the strategic vision driving its next phase of growth.

The two new teams will be named from among Hyderabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad and Sialkot, the PCB had said earlier.

The list was finalised after the valuation reports for the two new teams were received by the PCB by independent auditors.

Meanwhile, barring Multan Sultans, the current owners of the existing five franchises have renewed their ownership agreements with the PCB for the next 10 years.

The London Roadshow aims to build on this momentum by offering investors and cricket lovers an immersive introduction to the league, its commercial ecosystem and the strategic vision driving its next phase of growth.

Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi said, “The HBL-PSL stands as a symbol of excellence and ambition and taking this roadshow to Lord’s - the heart of cricketing heritage, reflects our commitment to elevating Pakistan cricket on the global stage.

The Pakistan Super League’s 11th edition is planned to be held from March 26 to May 3, 2026, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday, while also announcing that the auction for two proposed new franchises would take place on January 8.

The announcements were made during a PCB investor roadshow in New York, part of an overseas promotional campaign aimed at attracting commercial interest ahead of a potential expansion of the league from six to eight teams.

The PCB has previously indicated that expansion is under consideration, though the addition of new franchises has not yet been formally ratified.

Addressing attendees at the event, Mohsin said the PCB had taken administrative control of the Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium and intended to begin renovation work.

He added that efforts were under way to have the venue ready in time for the PSL, though he acknowledged that completion before the tournament was not guaranteed.

“We are starting Muzaffarabad’s stadium, which we have taken over, and our target is to get it ready before the PSL. If not, then work will be initiated within this year,” he said.

Mohsin also stated that the deadline for submission of bids for the new franchises had been extended to December 22, citing interest from prospective investors.

On Sunday, the PSL trophy was displayed at Times Square, where members of Pakistan’s cricketing diaspora gathered for photographs and brief interactions with players and officials.

The PCB said the event was intended to raise the league’s profile among overseas audiences. Several Pakistan cricketers attended the engagement, including Shan Masood, as well as former players Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja.

The PCB also said members of the current national setup were present, though no official matches or cricketing activities were scheduled as part of the programme. Singer Ali Zafar, who has previously been associated with PSL anthems, was also in attendance.

The New York event followed a similar promotional stop at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London earlier this year. The PCB has described these activities as part of a broader effort to enhance the league’s commercial value and visibility beyond traditional markets.

Launched in 2016, the PSL has grown into Pakistan’s flagship T20 competition, initially staged entirely overseas before returning to home venues in phases.

While the league has attracted international players and broadcasters, it has also faced scheduling challenges due to Pakistan’s crowded international calendar and competition from other T20 leagues.

The PCB has yet to release detailed information regarding venues, player drafts or confirmation of new teams for the 2026 season.

KARACHI: Interest in the new PSL teams has reached a peak. Business personalities from Pakistan, the UK, the USA, and other countries are eager to own a franchise.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will decide on the two new team owners in an auction scheduled for January 8, 2026.

A financial model for the new franchises has been finalized. Like existing teams, the new franchises will receive up to 95% of the revenue from the central income pool. The PCB has guaranteed each of the seventh and eighth teams a minimum of PKR 850 million over the next five editions (from PSL 11 onward). This is termed as a “Minimum Central Pool Income Guarantee.”

According to details From PSL 11 (2026), two new teams will be added. The franchise rights will be sold for a 10-year period (2026–2035). Successful bidders will be able to choose a team name from the cities Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, or Gilgit. They may also propose a name outside this list, but PCB reserves the right to approve or reject it. One time fees for it is USD one million.

Each franchise can include a suffix along with the city name, but this too will require PCB’s written approval. However, using suffixes already associated with existing franchises—such as Qalandars, Kings, United, Zalmi, Gladiators, or Sultans—is not permitted. Logos and team names will also require prior written approval from the board, and commercial brand names or logos cannot be used.

All bidders must include the proposed team name and logo in their technical proposal.

The central pool income from each tournament will be divided equally among all participating franchises. From PSL 11 to PSL 20, every franchise will have a right to receive a minimum fixed percentage share from the central pool after deductions for taxes, production, and licensing fees.

From media rights, franchises will receive 95%, and from sponsorships and ticket sales, they will also receive an equivalent share. From central licensing income, they will receive 85%. Franchise fees paid by teams will not be part of the central pool.

The PSL Governing Council may increase the percentage share for any number of tournaments at its discretion. After the 20th edition, the PCB will reassess and determine the franchise percentage shares.

The PCB has decided to provide the seventh and eighth teams with a guaranteed PKR 850 million each for the first five editions starting from PSL 11. If the central pool share of a successful bidder falls below this guaranteed minimum, the PCB will make up the shortfall or adjust the same amount as a discount in the franchise fee for the next tournament.

If tournament revenues decline and the PCB compensates the difference, that payment will be considered the final and only entitlement of the successful bidder for that period.
Successful bidders cannot sell or transfer ownership of the franchise during the first three years. However, from the fourth year onward, they may do so with PCB’s prior written approval, by paying 10% of the annual franchise fee as a transfer fee.
