Forecast for flooding of low-lying areas in seven Punjab cities​

LAHORE: The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) of the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Saturday warned of inundation of the low-lying areas of seven Punjab cities due to possible rainfall on Sunday (today).

The forecast for Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang and Okara says that heavy downpours may disrupt routine life and movement in these cities.

According to the FFD, the flow at Guddu Barrage is expected to reach the low-flood level while moderate increases in flows are also expected in the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi rivers and their associated tributaries. The division has also warned of possible urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujrat and Gujranwala and flash flooding in streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tributaries of the Kabul River.

GILGIT: Cloudburst-induced floods blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and other roads, damaged farmland and properties and disrupted electricity supply in Ghizer district on Saturday.

Flash floods triggered by heavy rain caused damage to houses and crops in several areas of Ghizer in the early hours.

The floods wreaked havoc in Naubahar village, damaging Gushgush Jamaat Khana. They also destroyed crops, fruit trees and agricultural land in the village.

Floods in various areas blocked the road from Immit to Barjangle and damaged electricity transmission lines along the route.
