Tourism operations in Punjab’s Salt Range, Murree and other northern areas have been suspended due to heavy monsoon rains, landslides and an increase in cloudburst incidents.

Punjab Tourism Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar said on Tuesday that climate change has severely disrupted the tourism sector, causing substantial economic losses.

“Both domestic and international tourism have suffered,” he said. “The cable car service in Patriata has been closed after one of its pylons collapsed during torrential rains.” For the past two days, tourist activities across Murree, Kallar Kahar, Chakwal’s lakes and other northern destinations have been at a complete halt.

“Large numbers of local tourists from Punjab’s plains and Sindh usually travel to these destinations, but all such activities have now come to a standstill,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, Anwar stressed that tourism could not be abandoned. “Tourism cannot be given up because of climate change,” he said. “The Punjab government has allocated Rs33 billion for new tourist attractions, restoration of heritage sites and infrastructure upgrades in northern regions.”

He added that Murree, Kallar Kahar and the Salt Range were being upgraded, while Fort Munro was being developed into a prime hill station.

Anwar also said that tourism facilities were being activated in Rajanpur, Layyah and Multan. “We are placing special emphasis on promoting desert tourism in South Punjab, particularly in Cholistan,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid traveling to northern tourist spots and to monitor weather conditions before planning trips.

According to official figures, since June 2025 at least 162 people have lost their lives and hundreds have been injured in monsoon-related incidents, particularly in the Salt Range and Chakwal, where cloudbursts and flash floods have caused widespread devastation.

Nonsense! You’re getting water to use and you don’t appreciate the achievement of Faisal Vada pao and Cantonment!

When there is no water you Karachites cry about it and now that water is freely provided including pools and water transport you are ungrateful!

PIA flights disrupted amid torrential rains in Karachi

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operations at Karachi airport faced major disruptions on Tuesday due to heavy rains and stormy weather in the city.

Karachi has been receiving intermittent heavy showers since early morning, leading to waterlogging on major roads and traffic gridlocks. The downpour also affected access to Jinnah International Airport as several routes were partially submerged, making it difficult for passengers and staff to reach the terminal on time.

According to PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan, multiple flights were either cancelled or delayed as downpours hampered operations and prevented passengers from reaching the airport.

The national flag carrier cancelled its Karachi-Quetta-Karachi flights PK-310/311 and Karachi-Islamabad-Karachi flights PK-308/309, while Lahore-Karachi flight PK-305 was delayed at Lahore Airport and will depart once weather conditions improve.

PIA’s Karachi-Najaf-Karachi service (PK-109/110) was also delayed as passengers were unable to arrive on time, with its departure now expected at 10:30pm.

Similarly, Karachi-Islamabad flight PK-370 has been rescheduled for 9:30pm.

International departures have also been affected, with Karachi-Jeddah (PK-731) and Karachi-Madinah (PK-843) flights expected to face delays. Moreover, tomorrow’s Karachi-Islamabad-Karachi flights PK-300/301 have been cancelled.

The airline has advised passengers to remain in contact with its call centre at 111-786-786 for updated flight information and to confirm flight timings and road conditions before heading to the airport.

“PIA apologises for the inconvenience caused by weather-related disruptions and is making every effort to normalise operations at the earliest,” the spokesperson added.

Karachi Cantonment board only wishes it could manage Karachi. Actually Karachiites would breath a sigh of relief if the Cantonment Board or DHA took over all of Karachi and freed them from those who run the city today.

Regardless of all the issues, one can never complain about PPP being inconsistent.
They have consistently failed Karachi, with each passing year, no exception!

People today are fondly remembering Naimatullah Khan and Mustafa Kamal for their services to the city and there is massive hopelessness because Karachi's voters have no control over who runs their city. The city is ruled by the provincial government regardless of who/what Karachiites may want, thanks to 18th Amendment - The death knell for Karachi.

If you’re referring to the achievements of turning Karachi into an Islamic city by planting date trees I have zero fond memories.

Mustafa Kamal started projects and then found the usual system hitting back including his khaki backers.

Karachi is simply orphaned and no one cares anymore. After all, most original residents of Karachi have left anyway for Islamabad or Lahore.

Whoever is left was either filthy rich or waiting for their final push into poverty

It's bad news all around. Collective failure of federal and provincial authorities.

To be fair, even FEMA got a lot of flak for its response to the Texas floods, but in Pakistan the failures seem so widespread that it seems that the authorities don't even want to make an effort to learn from their mistakes and improve their systems.
