COAS visits flood-affected areas of Punjab, meets members of affected Sikh community


Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday visited the flood-affected areas of Punjab, including Sialkot Sector, Shakargarh, Narowal and Kartarpur, according to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The visit was aimed at reviewing the flood situation and the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

“The COAS was given a comprehensive brief on the prevailing situation and the preparations for the next spell of rains,” the statement said. “He appreciated the troops and the civil administration for their coordinated and untiring efforts in rescuing and providing relief to the masses in affected areas.”

It added that the army chief also interacted with the affected Sikh community of the area and assured the community that all religious sites affected during floods, including Durbar Sahib Kartarpur, will be completely revived to their original condition at priority.

Ninth spell of monsoon rains begins: PDMA


A statement from the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has said that the ninth spell of monsoon rains began, as heavy rains were forecasted till Sept 2.

The rains were predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur, the PDMA spokesperson said.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed instructed officials and provincial authorities to remain alert, the statement added.

ADB announces $3mn emergency grant for Pakistan flood relief

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a $3 million grant to Pakistan from the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund to support emergency flood relief efforts in the country, according to a ADB statement on Friday.

This monsoon season so far, over 800 people have died in Pakistan in rain/flood related incidents, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

“Asian Development Bank President Masato Kanda extended condolences for the lives lost and individuals affected by the widespread monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan. Demonstrating ADB’s rapid response capability,
Mr Kanda announced that ADB will provide, upon request of the Government of Pakistan, a $3 million grant from the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund to support emergency relief efforts,” the statement read.

“Pakistan is experiencing devastating flooding that has displaced families and communities, and ADB stands firmly with Pakistan during this crisis,” said Kanda.

“When disasters strike, we respond quickly to help communities rebuild with dignity. This emergency support reflects our enduring commitment to Pakistan’s people through both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development.”
