‘Pakistan’s poverty rate higher than India, B’desh’

No doubt Pakistan suffers severe poverty. But claiming it's "worse off" than Bharat & Bangladesh casts doubt, considering their governments are notorious for fabricating stats, going back decades. Not to mention their overcrowded hygiene levels are worse; especially Bangladesh.
I would imagine India's and Bangladesh's extreme poverty is worse than Pakistan's extreme poverty.

This statistics are really messed up.

One has to go to the countries and see for themselves.

@Feroze sb

Not sure about BD but you have a point about IND. While overall poverty maybe worse in PAK than IND, I suspect the bottom 20% of IND is worse than bottom 20% of PAK.

Correct, my Indian guest. I assume India's extreme poverty is worse than Pakistan's extreme poverty.

However Pakistan has more poverty percentage than India in recent times.

If it wasn't for the incompetent military rulers we wouldn't be in this mess.

I see it online and only need to use my common sense. Bharati stats claimed 70% literacy. Yet those same 700 plus million have no toilets. The Bangladeshi stats claim the country has twice the income per capita as Pakistan. So obviously the stats are fake.

Meanwhile Bangladesh:

Literacy rate is close to 80% in India. 73% was the figure in 2011 (National Survey). 700 million without toilets? Where are you pulling those figures from? Yes there's still a substantial population without proper toilet facilities comparative to the population but your claims are childish. I reckon even Pakistan would have a substantial amount of it's population without proper facilities. It's all relative to the population anyways.

This thread is on multidimensional poverty as per UNDP and other bodies.

One of the reasons of our present situation is our comparison needle towards the lowliest possible scale to the East. We needs to make our role model to countries like China, Malaysia, Indonesia etc not to some uncivilized garbage dump.

We have a lot of trolls on this forum, mostly belonging to the Pakistani liberal left, found most commonly in Muhajir (including East Punjabis) & Sindhi elites who promote this kind of tosh. They pollute our media with this.

FYI i am also of Muhajir & Sindhis descent. A lot of times I pointed this on the previous forum but only got called out for it.

Bangladesh may have a larger economy than Pakistan.

But at least Pakistan is not a least developed country like Bangladesh.

Pakistan is a much better country than Bangladesh.

We have a powerful military and more human resources of 260 million people.

I think 2 days ago a family of 4-5 did suicide, it was in karachi I guess. The male (head if family) was only 28, married with kid and had one sister. All did suicide. Because they were struggling and no one came to support. Close family members even blocked their contact numbers.
I refuse to believe a person who is matric/inter pass cannot make at least 30-35k per month while living in Karachi, add another member of family, wife or sister working then it becomes 60-70k, sure not much but enough to get life going. Add a BS/BA degree education which one can do virtually free in Pakistan and can become at least a teacher if not more.

Most of the time this entire family suicide stories come up its either a case of personal enmity, murder or murder-suicide.

WASHINGTON: More than one-third of Pakistan’s population faces overlapping deprivations in health, education and living standards, according to the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) released on Monday.

Figures released by the UNDP in New York show that 38.3 per cent of Pakistan’s population was multidimensionally poor, compared with 16.4 per cent in India and 14.9pc in Bangladesh. The estimates are based on household surveys conducted in different years and do not provide a strictly contemporaneous comparison.

In Pakistan, the intensity of deprivation among those classified as multidimensionally poor stood at 51.7pc. Another 12.9pc of the population was considered vulnerable to multidimensional poverty, indicating that a substantial share of people remained at risk of falling into acute deprivation.

Unlike conventional income-based measures, the MPI assesses overlapping disadvantages in areas such as nutrition, child mortality, years of schooling, school attendance, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, housing and household assets.

The report also documents a worrying global reversal. The number of people living in multidimensional poverty has risen for the first time in 15 years, reaching 1.2 billion, as families struggle to meet their basic needs.

The latest total is 51.5 million higher than the previous update. Children account for more than half of those affected, with 617m living in multidimensional poverty, while 83pc of the total live in rural areas.

The global findings underline the scale of the challenge facing governments, particularly in providing essential services to disadvantaged communities. Poverty is not simply a shortage of income; it can also mean inadequate nutrition, missed schooling and a lack of clean water or electricity.

South Asia accounts for a substantial share of global deprivation. The report says the region accounts for at least one-third of global deprivations in nutrition, housing, and years of schooling.

It is also home to 150m poor people living in households where a school-aged child is not attending school, highlighting persistent barriers to education despite broader development gains.

The UNDP’s regional figures put South Asia’s multidimensional poverty rate at approximately 19.3pc, with another 18.4pc of the population vulnerable to such poverty. Health accounts for about 29.9pc of the contribution to regional multidimensional poverty, education for 33.7pc and living standards for 36.3pc.

The figures show how disadvantages in different areas reinforce one another. Poor health, inadequate education and substandard living conditions can trap families in poverty and make it difficult for them to improve their circumstances.

“The rise in poverty should be a wake-up call for the world,” said UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo.

“Behind these figures are 1.2 billion people facing hardships that reinforce one another: hunger, missed schooling and a lack of clean water or electricity. This is unacceptable.”

All lies …

PTI propaganda…. This all part of yahoodi sazish….

The west started a war on Pakistan's border twice in the last 50 years which destabilized the country and its society.

They applied sanctions on Pakistan in the 90s due to going nuclear and only now the unofficial embargo is beginning to lift.

India through its proxies has been hammering half of the country for 20 years, making it difficult to invite FDI.

India with all the trade and investment is still an absolute shithole. They have had a clean run so they should have no excuses.

European countries are not a good example. They benefited from slavery and plundering the brown and black races for centuries. No sanctions or enemies to worry about. Complete control and influence over the banking system.

Considering all of this Pakistan has survived. Most other nations would have collapsed. You can't kill a nation that refuses to die. 30 years of peace and good policy will transform the country.

Agree on the points..

Add also … army should return to its barracks and the people rule themselves… it is their choice not yours..

Besides you people clearly suck at governing…
