Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for the industrial sector on Friday, cutting rates by Rs10.69 per unit. This move aims to boost exports and industrial production.

Due to the prime minister's special efforts, the new electricity price per unit for the industrial and export sector is set at Rs34.99.

According to a statement from the PM Office, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) recommended this reduction for industries.

The PM’s package is expected to provide over Rs200 billion in relief to industries, enhancing their competitiveness in the global market.

The package aims to align the country’s manufacturing costs with international markets, reducing production costs for industrial and agricultural commodities. This is anticipated to lead to an increase in exports.

The tariff cut is also expected to accelerate industrial growth, create new job opportunities, and stimulate economic activity.

It may be mentioned that NEPRA had proposed a reduction of Rs10.69 per unit in electricity prices for industries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz's special package is set to alleviate over Rs200 billion worth of burden from industries.

Sources indicate that this relief aims to make the cost of goods competitive in the global market. It is also expected to reduce the production costs of industrial and agricultural products, leading to a significant increase in exports.

Experts believe that the prime minister's announcement will accelerate industrial development and rapidly increase employment. The faster pace of industrial activity and the rise in exports will benefit the national economy.

Take a look at south east Asia, they are progressing at break net speed, and Pakistan is still stuck in dark ages due to your type of mentality.

Is this true that for the domestic sector, the highest rate, inclusive of taxes is now over PKR 72/unit? That is extortionate, isnt it?

Regards

@Forsvaret

The question is is it really true? Cos if it is true it means about 25 cents or over INR 20/unit. That is crazy! At that rate it would be better for everyone to run on solar in the day, and on diesel gensets during night.

Sharif family did all kinds of nonsensical power deals to "end" load shedding in Punjab and to show themselves as savior of Punjab who was suffering load shedding of 12-14 hours daily

Today Pakistan has trillions of circular debt and the beautiful part is that load shedding is still happening in Punjab

These are the clowns Pakistan is stuck with and would remain stuck for God knows how many years

I consumed 295 units at home last month May24.
My Bill PKR 12035 including all taxes. i.e. 40.79 per unit in Lahore. Without taxes fuel surcharge arrears tv fee etc etc it 27.1 per unit PKR 8k around.

Had previous Establishment under Raheel & Bajwa not spread anarchy under donkey king imran+qadri dharnaas 2014 onwards, CPEC first phase completed way before and second phase of industrial revolution and transfer of chinese industries into Pakistan land in full swing. Elevtricity demands tops and we are not in circular debt mess anymore.

Actually, PMLN restarting all things from scratch which its barred earlier unnecessarily and completely stopped in 2018 by imposition of donkey king of whom Chinese didn't like at all.

@Tameem

Thank you, Tameem bhai, that was quite useful. I am an financial analyst specialising mainly in energy and this is very helpful to me. PKR 40/unit is 14-15 cent per unit which is not excessive. Slightly higher than peak domestic rates in IND (11-12 cents).
I got confused by this article, particularly the following statement

An official said the real applicable average national tariff would now stand between Rs65 and 72 per unit after inclusion of surcharges, taxes, duties and levies besides monthly and quarterly adjustments.

Unfortunately the quality of reporting being what it is in the subcontinent and journos having limited understanding of business they uselessly get it grossly wrong. Seems to be the case here.

@SoulSpokesman
Some high end societies in Lahore like Model Town, Defense, Baharia etc Purchase electricity from GOP (Wapda) and sale to their members by themselves reducing any kind of Electricity outage to zero. They however charge a lot like PKR 70 (Bahria Town Lahore) straight away and residents their happy to pay these abnormal charges as it put them in elites🤣 99% of Lahore however lives outside of these societies.

This is exactly why Pakistanis are shifting to solar. Each and every sector in Pakistan is bankrupt now.
