Several top PTI leaders were taken into custody from outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, the party said on Tuesday.

“Absolutely shameful! Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, Asad Qaiser, Ahmed Bhachar, Sahibzada Hamid Raza have been arrested outside Adiala Jail, for simply exercising their right to meet with Imran Khan, as permitted by law,” the PTI said in a post on X.

No military trial for Imran, UK foreign secretary assures MPs

• Assurance follows concerns raised by British lawmakers
• Diplomats warn Lammy’s letter may strain relations with Pakistan

LONDON: In response to concerns raised by British MPs regarding the imprisonment of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy in a letter to a Labour MP issued a detailed statement, saying there is “no indication” that Mr Khan will be tried in military courts.

The letter was made public by PTI’s Syed Zulfi Bukhari on Saturday, who hailed the development and told Dawn that Mr Lammy’s response signalled the UK government’s values that “any valid democracy cannot have military courts”.

In the one-page letter dated Nov 11, the foreign secretary addressed Labour MP Kim Johnson of Liverpool Riverside, saying: “While Pakistan’s judicial processes are a domestic matter, we have been very clear that the Pakistani authorities need to act in line with their international obligations and with respect for fundamental freedoms, including the right to a fair trial, due process and humane detention.”

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Sunday appointed three official spokespersons.

According to a notification issued by the PTI, Barrister Gohar Khan, Salman Akram Raja, and Omar Ayub have been designated as the focal persons for PTI’s incarcerated leader.

This decision aims to clear any ambiguities regarding information related to the PTI founder, ensuring that all communications will now be handled through these spokespersons, as per the notification. In a related development, at least three PTI leaders were arrested in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, for violating an ordinance that bans political activities without seeking permission.

The detained leaders include Abdul Hameed Pothi, Sain Zulfiqar, and Qazi Arshad, who had organised a meeting on the November 24 protest.

Imran tells party leaders to dissociate from PTI if unable to attend ‘critical’ Nov 24 protest

Former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday told party leaders and ticket holders to “disassociate themselves from the party” if they could not participate in the PTI’s announced power show for November 24.

On Nov 13, Imran issued a “final call” for nationwide protests on Nov 24 (Sunday), denouncing what he described as the stolen mandate, the unjust arrests of people and the passage of the 26th amendment, which he said has strengthened a “dictatorial regime”.

Since Imran’s arrest in August 2023 on several counts, his party has been holding protests across the country for his release and against the alleged rigging of the Feb 8 elections.

Imran reiterated his call for the protest today in a statement posted to his X account.

“Everyone must join the protest on November 24th. If any PTI leader or ticket holder is not able to ensure their participation in the protest, they should disassociate themselves from the party because this is the decisive moment when the entire nation will come out for freedom.

“The nation will not accept any excuse at such a critical time,” the statement reads.
