11 declared proclaimed offenders

Meanwhile, an ATC in Lahore declared eleven PTI workers proclaimed offenders in a case pertaining to an attack on the Shadman police station during the May 9 riots.

ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill issued perpetual arrest warrants against the PTI’s Usman Ghani, Mohsin Khan, Naveed Khan, Muhammad Faizan, Mateen Khan, Arbaz Ali, Ali Hamza, Muhammad Zahid, Samiullah, Munafar Khan, and Bakht Khan. The judge initiated the proceedings on an application filed by the investigating officer.

The IO stated that proclamations had been published, but the suspects failed to surrender or cooperate in the investigation. He said the suspects had gone into hiding due to fear of arrest. He asked the court to declare the suspects as POs, which was granted.

Separately, the judge recorded statements of two prosecution witnesses in as many cases of torching police vehicles near Zaman Park and Jinnah House (residence of the Lahore corps commander) during the May 9 violence.

Incarcerated PTI leaders, including former governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, were presented in the hearing held at Kot Lakhpat jail. PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was not present due to his shifting to Adial jail, Rawalpindi, for the hearing of a case. The judge adjourned the hearing till Jan 9.

PTI terminates Salman Ahmad’s membership for criticising Imran’s family

Published December 19, 2024
The PTI has terminated the membership of musician Salman Ahmad for running a campaign against “the family of Imran Khan”, it emerged on Thursday

Ahmad had recently posted on X to criticise Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi for her political activities during the November 26 protests, sparking criticism from party supporters.

Last week, Imran, during a conversation with journalists after a court convened at the Adiala jail, had lambasted the singer for hurling baseless allegations against the former first lady, terming his X posts “foolish”.

A notification issued a day ago by the PTI Central Secretariat addressing the musician said he had “consistently sought to sow division and discontent” among the party’s members and supporters through “unwarranted and scurrilous posts” on social media.

“You are aware of those posts, including the posts against the family of Imran Khan.”

The notification said Ahmad’s basic membership was hereby terminated and he was expelled from the party with immediate effect. “You are further asked never to show any affiliation with PTI,” it continued.

The notification issued by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan added that through press releases issued by the PTI Core Committee, the party had told Ahmad to desist from posting objectionable posts and yet he had continued to defy Imran’s instructions despite “repeated warnings to the contrary”.

It added that the party had disassociated itself from his conduct and warned him about its consequences.

Ahmad had long been a supporter of the PTI, often singing songs at the party’s events. In 2022, he was appointed as the focal person for Imran on culture.

In 2016, he was briefly detained by the Islamabad police outside Imran’s Bani Gala residence while he was on his way to meet the cricketer-turned-politician.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's message to the Pakistani nation from Adiala Jail – December 17th, 2024:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has always operated within the constitution and the law, but the mafia that has imposed itself on our country continually violates the law and the constitution. The establishment of judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9th (2023) and November 26th, and the release of undertrial prisoners are our legitimate demands.

I am postponing the (proposed) civil disobedience movement, during which I will define the framework and timeline of the movement.

There are seven reasons why it has become necessary for us to start a civil disobedience movement:

1- In 2023, under the London Plan, elections to the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assemblies were not held within 90 days, contrary to the constitution, because the aim was to eliminate PTI before holding elections.

2- More than one hundred and forty cases were filed against me before May 9th (2023). Paramilitary Rangers kidnapped me from Islamabad, which the Supreme Court later declared illegal. May 9th was a false-flag operation, the aim of which was to arrest our people. Ten thousand people were arrested and jailed on trumped-up charges. Our party workers and leaders were tortured, their homes were ransacked, their families were harassed. As soon as they obtained bail from the courts, they were rearrested in new false cases. From my abduction to the torture and arrests of party workers, everything was illegal and unconstitutional.

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court against these atrocities, but the Supreme Court did not pay any attention to these horrific violations of human rights. Qazi Faez Isa was in cahoots with the imposed government. No party has ever been subjected to such state oppression since 1971.

3- Because of all the illegal and undemocratic tactics that were employed, they were under the delusion that PTI could not win the February 8th elections. Sikandar Sultan Raja and Qazi Faez Isa worked together to take away our party symbol, which was tantamount to banning the party. Our candidates were targeted. As many as three candidates in a constituency were forced to withdraw from elections.

4- They were so sure of winning the elections through engineering that Nawaz Sharif was even prepared to deliver his victory speech. But before he could, they realized that PTI had won. Then they committed Form-47 election fraud. The testimony of the Commissioner of Rawalpindi confirmed this fraud. But even after that, the justice system remained a silent bystander, and no action was taken.

5- Although every oppressive and immoral tactic to take over the justice system was employed in the two-and-a-half years since regime change, the 26th Constitutional Amendment became the final nail to be hammered into the coffin of the independence of the judiciary. The Constitution was tampered with to pack the courts with hand-picked judges. The tactics used to pass these amendments (through parliament) were a farcical exercise. Despite that, neither the judiciary took any action nor did the media, considered the fourth pillar of the state, have the moral courage to raise its voice.

6- Despite a decision of the full court of the Supreme Court, reserved seats have not yet been allocated to PTI. This is not only contempt of court but also an insult of the public mandate and an assault on democracy.

7. On November 26th, bullets were rained down on our peaceful and unarmed political workers. Our party workers were completely peaceful and did not harm anyone. Their demand was the restoration of democracy and the constitution. There was neither a breakdown in law-and-order, nor was there violence. But, despite this, our people were martyred. 12 people were shot dead before sunset and the rest were gunned down at night in the dark after the electricity was turned off.

In these circumstances - when all constitutional rights have been taken away from Pakistanis, the Parliament and the Supreme Court have been taken over, the right to peaceful protest has been denied, the very foundations of law and the constitution have been shaken, bullets are being fired at our own citizens, and attempts are being made to pit institutions against the people – the nation is compelled to start a civil disobedience movement.

Although I would welcome leaders from other opposition parties to meet me in jail, I do not expect this government to allow such meetings, as they have not even allowed me to meet people from my own party for the past three months.

December 22, 2024

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a negotiation committee comprising members of the government following the recommendation by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, a statement said on Sunday.

On Dec 5, PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan warned of a civil disobedience movement from December 14 if his demands about the release of political prisoners facing trial and the formation of a judicial commission to probe the events of May 9, 2023, and November 26 were unmet.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Saturday that the government is forming a negotiation committee after intervention by NA speaker Sadiq, adding that dialogue is “the only way forward” for the government and the opposition.

On Friday, government legal adviser Barrister Aqeel Malik told DawnNews TV that the government was preparing a committee to negotiate with the PTI, with the members likely to be announced over the weekend.

Speaker Sadiq offered on Wednesday to facilitate the negotiations, saying that his “office and residence are open 24 hours”.

The committee formed today included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the PM’s political aide Rana Sanaullah, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, according to the statement issued by the Prime Minister House.

It also includes PPP’s Raja Parvez Ashraf and Naveed Qamar, MQM-P leader Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Privatisation Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Sardar Khalid Magsi, it added.

“Last night, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar requested the speaker of the National Assembly to play his role in negotiations,” the statement said. “He emphasised the offer of negotiations with PTI.”
