HIstory repeats...but problem is we keep getting screwed.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Fool me time and again can only mean I am an utter and total idiot. Now multiple that by 300 million times.

Or maybe just helpless? Apathetic?

I would have liked your post, were it not for the fact that mental derangement runs through ALL camps in Pakistan these days.

I can say a sentence about each one of them, but I think I am hated enough already. :D

Oh can't disagree with that, clown show all around.

The former Supreme Court Justice Ch. Iftikhar in mid 2000s became very 'popular' and he was backed by almost all political parties, included the fledgling PTI of Imran Khan, with singular goal to topple President Musharraf. Well, they succeeded but now most Pakistanis concur that the the entire Judges Movement was political in nature and the esteemed Chief Justice was a fraud and caused immense losses to Pakistan's stability and economy. In fact, I dare say, Pakistan was derailed starting about 2007/8.

Benefits of the hindsight? Yes, but also a lesson that 'popularity' doesn't always mean the best thing for a country.
Yes, we were fooled. I am worse as I was fooled by Zaid Hamid :P.

I don't care whether IK is popular or not, or if he becomes the PM. I consider him a hero like Edhi, AQ Khan, etc. I just want him to be treated fairly, and he should live freely from these bogus cases. I am still sad about how AQ Khan was treated and why IK didn't attend his funeral.

I know firsthand that farmers were happy in his era. Not to mention the daily wagers and street hawkers. Have you seen their treatment now?

I also think the military should have a constitutional role in politics, like in Turkey, etc., but that for some other time.

Thank Gen Zia for the laws he made that makes going free after causing a death, as well all the other arcane laws that have been added or amended since that time, to be enforced as an when needed.

That is the Pakistani way of justice.
lame diversion attempt. Zia died in 1988. Pakistani "judges" have forgotten there exists an ultimate JUDGE, who will hold all these corrupt, power hungry accountable in HIS court.

I agree with you, totally.

These wrong-doings have been rife for over half a century already, and the current crew in charge is not only following the same script, but is refining it even further to perfection - witness the recent changes in the "law".

Therefore, I would suggest that the current setup is even worse than Zia's time.

Just because my opinion of IK is very different than yours, does not mean that I should give the military a pass for its illegalities, nor does it mean that I do not agree with you just because of a different opinion about IK.

We agree on who the real villain is here. Please never forget that.
Essentially, I don't want power concentration anywhere as it is a luck game (gamble) then. If the person is benevolent, then it will be heaven, else hell.

We need physical or economic pressure so that a check is always there. Such as, a powerful armed force is required to keep India in check on its hegemony. Similarly, we need independent media, judiciary, etc so that both parliament and army must stick within their boundary.

Like 26 and 27 amendment, Zia misused the Islamic deet concept. In fact, it is the cruellest interpretation of this law, but that's what happens when there is no check. Zia also weaponised the Blasphemy law to appease Mullahs.
Anyway, I detest the Army and their collaborators because they have killed the merit in their own institute, government jobs, bureaucracy, PIA, Railway, SUPARCO, Education board, etc
We have regressed so much in so many ways. We cannot produce any world-class literature, scientists, speakers, journalists, educators, consumer goods, fruits, etc but singers and dramas. Guess who has made an entry in digial media

My focus is on Pakistan to be stable, have focus and continuity of policies for the next at least 10 years.
Stability, even in Physics and celestial mechanics, should be self-evident. If you are using force or an external condition, it is conditionally stable. Not an ideal thing.

Mockery of court. They're handing down punishments on loose cases so they can roll it back if he ever accepts a deal.

Majority of Pakistan's institutions are just mafias with traditions and paperwork.

Taxpayers cannot afford such luxuries to keep these people in jail for decades. It would be efficient if judges and parliamentarians are made to pay for the prison costs since it's their decision and their laws.

dafuq people got to do with this? jail no jail pm no pm, it literally has zero consequences for them.

Remember how noble Gen Zia's used to sound while he was laying the foundations to destroy civilian supremacy in Pakistan? Or how noble jihad was in Afghanistan? And so on till today. It was all for Islam of course. And nashnull sekortee.

Everyone's going to their own graves but it seems you insist on waking up in afterlife from Zia's grave. Atleast give your keyboards Z I A a bit of rest.

People who show such obsession usually go postal sooner or later unless its some Mongol tradition.

Not my business, or interest, getting into details of this case, but what struck me was the length of the prison sentence.

17 years, to be served consecutively I may add.

That feels harsh, when as per AI the Pakistani civil code is interpreted as having a 25 year maximum for murder. And a murderer can be considered for parole in 15 years.

Obviously it’s political, but even so it feels like the judges haven’t bothered with even the pretence of impartiality.

Or did I get that wrong?
