I think the thread title is overboard. Lets hope the Mods look into it.

Going back to the topic, Pakistan is a banana republic where there is near zero semblance of law and order.

The judiciary, executive, legislative branches of the government are compromised and doing bidding of one institution. So yes, nothing good will come out of this and the precedents set at these times will hurt Pakistan in the long run. One does not need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Well after this debacle by SC there is simply no hope for a better Pakistan, what has happened is unprecedented stripping the most popular party to contest in the elections, folks London plan is complete courtesy of??

PTI ON THE ROPES

The key to Imran’s charisma is the perceived polarity of his narrative, in terms of ‘us vs them’, ‘friend vs enemy’, ‘good vs evil’, and is underscored by the conflict between the PTI leader and the establishment. This has given a larger-than-life profile to the former in the context of the martyrdom syndrome.

While his initial rise to fame critically depended on the establishment’s input by design, his second rise to fame — after the no-confidence motion of April 9, 2022 — can be attributed to the establishment by default.

Imran Khan has been analysed as a populist leader in the company of such leaders as Donald Trump of the US, Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil and Narendra Modi of India. As a populist, he took up the cause of changing the system, the provision of jobs for the youth and condemnation of dynastic leaders as the people’s enemies. His primary constituency — the middle class — had already cultivated the master narrative of Pakistan for 70 years, based on hatred for the political leadership for its perceived corruption. Both gelled well with each other.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) withdrew on Monday its contempt plea from the Supreme Court (SC) seeking action against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Punjab government for violating the apex court's order on ensuring a level-playing field for the party in the upcoming elections.

The party also withdrew its petition regarding the same matter from the Peshawar High Court (PHC), Express News reported.

IHC reserves verdict on Imran’s plea against Toshakhana, £190 million case jail trial

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday reserved its verdict on the admissibility of petitions against the jail trial of PTI founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana and £190 million NAB references.

The petitions seeking annulment of Imran’s jail trial in the two cases were heard by IHC judges Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, with PTI counsel Sardar Latif Khosa representing the former premier.

Khosa, while reading out the jail trial notifications and giving reference to multiple court verdicts stated that they have challenged the two notifications regarding the Toshakhana and Al-Qadir Trust case jail trials.

He added that one of their petitions was allotted a number, while the other was not.

On Justice Aurangzeb’s question about approaching the court weeks after the notification issued in November 2023, Khosa replied that the reference against Imran was filed on December 20; which led to the discovery that a daily trial was being conducted.

“A division bench gave a short judgment of annulling the cypher jail trial on November 21, with no order being issued in this regard by any judge,” the judge added.

Khosa, agreeing to Justice Aurangzeb’s remarks, stated that the trial then commenced after the court verdict.

The judge stated that they were moving the court to determine the validity of the jail trial process and not to assess the place of trial.

“There were no suggestions by the judge in this case, and no one ordered to conduct the jail trial based on security concerns,” said Khosa.

Former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, expressed frustration and defiance during an informal media interaction at Adiala Jail on Saturday. The incarcerated cricketer-turned-politician claimed that the PTI is facing obstacles in conducting its election campaign, with restrictions preventing the party from holding public gatherings.

Khan boldly declared, "Leave me just three days before the election and allow me to hold only one public gathering, and everyone will see what we can achieve." The statement comes as Khan voices concerns over the fairness and transparency of the ongoing election process.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the Toshakhana case, Khan asserted that all the gifts in the state's gift depository were estimated based on a small shop owned by an Indian citizen in Dubai. He criticized the case, claiming that it relies heavily on the testimony of a single witness, who was cross-examined today.

Commenting on the valuation of items in the Toshakhana, Khan said, "The jewelry worth Rs18 million has been increased to Rs3 billion," insinuating manipulation to favour certain individuals. He provocatively added, "The colonel sitting above must be listening," hinting at an alleged influence on the legal proceedings.

Khan also raised concerns about the selective application of justice, pointing to his disqualification while the court decision was suspended and Nawaz Sharif was cleared of his conviction. He questioned the delays in hearing appeals against his disqualification and human rights petitions, emphasising the perceived lack of democracy in the country.

Expressing frustration with the judicial system, Khan stated that despite the Lahore High Court's decision rejecting his nomination papers, no written order has been issued, creating uncertainty around the election process. He warned that the current conduct of the election could lead to political instability and negatively impact the country's economy.

Referring to political rival Nawaz Sharif, Khan accused authorities of imposing a "fugitive" on the nation, lamenting the apparent breakdown of the rule of law in the country. Despite the challenges, Khan expressed determination to continue the political fight, asserting, "We will fight till the last ball."

In a swipe at his party's critics and those contemplating leaving the PTI, Khan confidently stated that the party's vote bank remains strong, and efforts by the establishment to break the party have failed. Looking ahead, Khan predicted that people would join the PTI after the election is concluded.

Khan emphasised his commitment to peaceful political activities, stating, "I am a politician; I will do politics. I will not hold a gun in my hand." He criticised the alleged manipulation of intra-party elections, referring to a Supreme Court verdict upholding the Election Commission of Pakistan's decision to strip PTI of its iconic electoral symbol of 'bat'.
Khan expressed his determination to exercise his right to vote through a postal ballot, stating, "All this is being done only so that Imran Khan does not come back to power."

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday that ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi found out about the diplomatic cypher by “chance”, adding that it was intended for former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Talking to media in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, he claimed that all efforts were made to suppress the cypher issue as it would have exposed US diplomat Donald Lu.

Imran said that Asad Majeed, the Pakistani ambassador, recommended demarche in an official meeting on Donald Lu's talk but now it is being said that there was no conspiracy.

“If there was nothing in the cypher then why demarche was issued [to the United States]. Does anyone ever demarches the US,” he questioned.

Imran said that no country was issued a demarche during PTI’s three-and-a-half-year tenure. However, he added, PTI members started defecting after the cypher issue.

He said that Raja Riaz and other members had started visiting the US embassy after the issue emerged, claiming that this development was also confirmed in an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report.

“Bajwa hired Husain Haqqani in October 2021 without our knowledge, paid him $35,000, and had Haqqani tweet that Imran is anti-America while Bajwa is pro-America."

Imran said that the case against PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz was different, as both were disqualified, claiming that PML-N President Shehbaz had complete support from Bajwa.

"No one is attending their rallies; there is fear they might run away from the elections again, as they did earlier. Elections must be held on February 8, no matter what,” he added.

The former prime minister said that senior politician Javed Hashmi has been in prison, and he understands that the establishment is working against him.

Regarding Chaudhry Nisar Ahmad Khan, PTI founder stated, "He is a 50-year-old friend who was invited to join PTI in April 2018, but Chaudhry Nisar is still Chaudhry Nisar."

"If Chaudhry Nisar talks about joining us, Vigo Dala will reach his house to pick him up."
He further said that the ongoing struggle was part of a "freedom movement," declaring his time in jail as a form of worship within this movement.

Imran urged his party candidates to kick off a peaceful election campaign commencing next Sunday, warning of potential ticket changes for candidates failing to actively participate.

He also levelled accusations against authorities, alleging impediments to PTI's election campaign efforts.
