Now, to defend his wife's honour, he should have come without a uniform and brawled his way out.

Imo Army officer cannot wear uniform for personal reason of issue. He can fire bullet to protect his wife or shoot for self for defense as it is his right but cannot wear official uniform for personal reason as simple as that.
