Soleimani looks quite young in this. I think this must be from the 2000s, before the Syria war.

"The Shadow Commander" was a decent book I read about Qassim Suleimani and it covers Suleimani's participation and rise in Iran-Iraq war and then subsequent building and leading the Quds Force in the IRGC. A good point in the book was that Iran's foreign policy and continued defiance of the West since the 1990's was very much Khamenei's decision and there is a question of whether Iran will continue down the path once Khamenei passes.
