Renewable Energy Development in Türkiye

Türkiye installs 4.7 GW of solar in 2025

Türkiye’s cumulative solar capacity is approaching 25 GW after another strong year for new deployments, led by installations for self-consumption in the commercial and industrial market.

Very impressive growth.

She stressed that Türkiye stands out not only for its installation capacity but also for its advanced domestic supply chain, supported by strong manufacturing capabilities across key components.

"Strong manufacturing infrastructure covers blade, tower, and equipment production, directly contributing to local employment and domestic industry," Van der Straeten said.

Second after Germany in newly installed capacity.

Might even overtake with Merz now talking about rolling back the green initiative.

They are way ahead of us. It would take at least ten years for us to catch up, but I want to remind everyone that Germany used to be a leader and pioneer in wind turbine technology. I recall going on school trips to the factories. This was all before the Chinese stole (!) the technology, improved it, and forced the Germans out of the market with their aggressive pricing. Same happened in the solar energy industry and next is the automobile industry. China wouldn't be anywhere close to where it's now if the Germans weren't such idiots. This is, btw, common knowledge in Germany.

oh one hand yes, on another, Germany was never going to be able to compete with China on mass production of cheap solar panels.

The Germans shot themselves over the Russia conflict. The energy prices killed German manufacturing to a significant degree in several sectors, and its never coming back, especially with China's rise in producing the same things and even Turkey producing things, and much cheaper.

Energy production from natural gas and coal is down because dams and other hydroelectric power plants are currently generating high output of electricity. Very helpful in the context of the ongoing global energy crisis.

The Atatürk Dam, one of Turkey’s most critical energy and water projects, has seen its water level exceed 90%.

Thanks to the effects of snow and spring rains, it has reached one of the highest levels recorded in the last 20–30 years.

● A dam at the heart of the GAP.
● It makes a significant contribution to Turkey’s hydroelectric production.
● It plays a critical role in irrigating agricultural land in the South East.

Water levels are rising, production is increasing. Energy and food security are being strengthened.

The Atatürk and Birecik Dams in Şanlıurfa are about to overflow, the gates will be opened, and citizens have been warned

[...]
“Due to increased rainfall in the Euphrates Basin region in recent days and the resulting excessive water flow caused by the melting of snow due to warmer weather, the water levels in the Atatürk and Birecik Dam reservoirs have approached their maximum levels. During the process of releasing water from the spillways, citizens should take precautions to prevent loss of life and property in settlements and businesses located along the Euphrates Riverbed.”

Authorities reminded citizens, especially those in areas close to the riverbanks, to be careful, avoid approaching these areas unless necessary, and heed the warnings.

CW Enerji has landed a provisional deal worth USD 750 million for the delivery of photovoltaic modules and other equipment to the United States. Another Turkish solar panel manufacturer, Smart Solar Technologies, has obtained an international certificate for solar cells from its factory near Izmir.
