When choosing a car with a mileage of about 1.5 million rubles, you must first make sure that the car is not used in a taxi. Speaking to socialbites.ca, Roman Titov, Deputy General Director of Used Cars of the Avilon Automobile Group, said that it is also desirable to confirm the mileage by the service at the dealership.
Budget foreign cars and Lada
“For this money you can find a good option from the domestic auto industry: Lada Vesta, XRay,
There is a wide selection from Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia.
You can also consider the Japanese Nissan Note, Almera, as well as the Volkswagen Polo and Jetta,” Titov listed.
He argued that it is easy to find spare parts for these cars and to service them at an affordable price. Titov noted that cars of foreign brands with a budget of 1.5 million rubles will be at least six years old, while domestic brands will be older than four years.

“As for crossovers and SUVs, the quality of cars in this segment will be significantly worse due to their high age and mileage,” Andrey Grishakov, director of the used car department of the Avtodom and Avtospetstsentr group of companies, told socialbites.ca.
The age of premium cars in this price segment will start from 15, and in Korean brands you can find cars that are not older than three years, he added.
Auto selector Sergei Lomonov says that for 1.5 million rubles it is most expedient to choose sedans and hatchbacks of Korean brands (primarily Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio, as well as Volkswagen Polo assembled in Russia).
“If we are talking about Solaris or Rio, it will be a car produced in 2017-2019, with a mileage of up to 100 thousand km, with an automatic transmission – what can be offered if a person wants to buy the most reliable and cheapest car,” Lomonov told socialbites.ca”.
According to him, Renault Logan and Sandero cars that fall into this budget category are less preferable due to the problematic French automatic transmission and more complex maintenance: in particular, flushing the radiator on the Logan and Sandero will require almost complete disassembly of the front of the car.
The budget of 1.5 million rubles includes Renault Duster crossovers with the same parameters or old Nissan Qashqai produced in 2012-2013 with a mileage of up to 150 thousand km, Lomonov continues.
“There will be no special problems on the Duster with a mileage of up to 100 thousand km, but most likely you will have to do a lot of maintenance, changing all the oils, but Qashqai is equipped with a CVT and you need be prepared for problems there. If they start, investments worth 150-200 thousand rubles will be required,” he warns.
Compromises are inevitable
Depending on the wishes of the client, it takes from two weeks to two months to find a suitable option for an affordable car, but in current conditions people prefer to put up with repainted body parts and technical defects, auto selector Sergei Novikov noted in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“People are basically looking for a car that is not broken, not painted and does not require investment. Then the search can take two months. And it is not a fact that such a car will be found in the end,” he said.
Novikov advises that with such a budget it is better to buy a car with a classic hydromechanical automatic transmission and a naturally aspirated engine, avoiding turbocharged engines and robotic gearboxes. There are options with turbo engines for the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid, and if you consider purchasing them, then only with low mileage, about 50 thousand km.
For this money, you can find a good option among Japanese cars – Mazda 3 or Honda Civic with a mileage of 100-150 thousand km. Their number is gradually decreasing, but cars with simple atmospheric engines and hydromechanical automatic transmissions are extremely reliable.
“The most popular models in this segment are the same four: Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid. If earlier we chose around 1 million rubles, now we are looking for one and a half million rubles,” Novikov sums up.
At a price of 1.5 million rubles, you should not think about buying technically complex cars from premium brands with long mileage and service life.
“With such a modest budget, it is better not to buy BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Lexus and other premium brands. These cars will most likely have more than 200,000 km mileage and will be in poor technical condition,” sums up Andrey Grishakov from Avtodom and Avtospetstsentr.
The average price of a used car on the Russian market is 1.5 million rubles. Dealers and car dealers interviewed by socialbites.ca say that in the secondary market the best option at this price will be the Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Volkswagen Polo and Renault Duster crossovers. But buyers of such cars will have to come to terms with their shortcomings.
