New bus sales in Russia increased 1.5 times in March 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. In this respect reports analytical agency “Avtostat”.
More than 2.1 thousand new buses were sold in our country last month. 55% of them were products of the domestic PAZ brand – almost 1.2 thousand of these vehicles were sold in a month. Russian NefAZ follows PAZ by a large margin with 188 buses sold. In third place is China’s Yutong, which sold 169 buses in March. LiAZ sold 152 buses per month.
Among the five most popular buses in Russia, only domestic models are included. These are PAZ 3204, 3205 and 4234, as well as NefAZ 5299 and LiAZ 5292.
At the end of the first quarter in Russia, bus sales increased by 23 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching over 5.1 thousand.

March sales figures from Russia show that Chinese brands now dominate the market holding nine out of the top ten best-selling brand positions with only homegrown champion Lada outselling them. Even more surprising is that one of those brands is Li Auto, which up until now was widely believed not to export cars.

Russia last year was China’s largest car export market with sales of 841,000 from January to November 2023. According to figures from China Automotive Digital Research Institute this wave shows no sign of abating.
Although sales of Lada far exceeded sales of any Chinese brand, and were up by 64.5% in March and by 43.2% YOY for the first three months, the increases from some Chinese brands were much higher.

Great Wall’s Haval brand along with Geely, and Chery all achieved quite close results with sales of 16,045, 15,004 and 13,159 respectively in March.

Both Geely and Chery in fact did even better as they appeared on the top ten list more than once. In the case of Geely they also gained the number 9 position thanks to Geely Belgee which is a joint venture mainly controlled by Belarusian state automaker BelAZ (51.5%) and Geely (33.5%) with the remainder held by other Chinese entities. It should be noted though that these cars are actually made in Belarus rather than China.
Chery on the other hand also had entries from the Exceed brand at number 6, Omoda at number 7 and Jetour at number 10. Omoda is an export only brand for various Chery cars first debuting with a renamed version of the Chery Omoda 5 and initially used as a brand in Russia and Kazakhstan.

The biggest news however on the list is Li Auto a brand which is generally thought of as operating only in China. Li sold 3,617 cars in Russia during March which was a 14971% increase YOY and the brand sold 8.049 in the first quarter up by 19532%.
The full results can be seen in the table below. These indicate that Russia will likely remain China’s key export market and that sales in Russia should be well up on last year and likely will amount to well over a million cars in 2024.

The third line is occupied by Honda Fit (1,073 vehicles). BMW X5 and Honda Stepwgn (1,000 and 995 vehicles, respectively) are also in the top five. In total, 212.4 thousand new passenger cars were imported into Russia in Q1 2024. This is 2.5 times more than in the same period last year. On the contrary, imports of used cars in the first three months decreased by 21.7% to 83.3 thousand vehicles. It should also be noted that new cars are most often imported from China and Kyrgyzstan - the share of these countries in March accounted for 60% and 28% of total imports, respectively.
Last month, cars with used cars were mainly imported from Japan (47%) and Belarus (24%). Note: the material uses the data of JSC "PPK" ("Passport Industrial Consulting") - a joint venture of JSC "E-Passport" and LLC "AUTOSTAT".

Having analyzed the quarterly statistics of new passenger car sales in Russia (especially for February and March), the experts of AUTOSTAT agency decided to improve the forecast of the car market in 2024. Recall that in February the market grew by 85.1% (up to 104 thousand vehicles), in March - by 109.4% (up to 146.5 thousand vehicles).
That is, it has practically reached the pre-crisis volumes. The experts of the agency have no doubt that the volume of sales of new passenger cars by the end of this year will exceed the results of 2023. In the most negative scenario (pessimistic) they forecast sales in 2024 of no less than 1.25 million vehicles (+18% to last year).
However, in the basic, main version, the analysts' forecast is improved already to 1.5 million (+42%) vehicles. And in the optimistic version, they believe that growth up to 1.75 million units (+65%) is possible. However, the director of "AUTOSTAT" agency Sergey Tselikov, who is also sure that the market will exceed 1.5 million, believes that it is too early to judge about its upper point, because it is better to wait for the results of April.
Because in February - March the increase in sales was promoted not only by market mechanisms, but also by a number of other reasons (expectation of price growth due to tougher rules of import of foreign cars from the Customs Union countries, overstocking of warehouses, attractive shares of manufacturers and a number of others), including emotional ones (uncertainty in the future pushed car owners to renew/buy cars).

Chery company has changed the Russian range of modifications of Tiggo 7 PRO Max crossover. If before the basic front-wheel drive version had a turbo engine 1.5 (147 hp, 210 Nm) and a variator, now such combination is excluded from the range, writes the publication "Avtorevu".
From now on, the "7" model with two driving wheels will have the same powertrain as all-wheel drive modifications: it is a 1.6 TGDI engine (150 hp, 275 Nm) and a 7-speed "robot" with two clutches. The time of acceleration to 100 km/h decreased from 9.8 to 9.7 seconds, and the top speed increased from 186 to 190 km/h. Such crossovers cost from 2 million 700 thousand to 2 million 980 thousand Rubles. Probably, such decision is dictated by the need to "divorce" Chery Tiggo 7 PRO Max with XCITE X-Cross 7 crossover assembled in St. Petersburg, which is a pre-reformed Tiggo 7 PRO with other emblems.
The new XCITE X-Cross 7 is equipped with the same 1.5 turbo engine and variator, with front-wheel drive only. Logically, the localized car should be cheaper than the "original", but the prices have not yet been announced. In addition, Chery has removed from the Russian range of crossovers Tiggo 7 PRO, Tiggo 8 PRO and Tiggo 8 PRO Max.
