Iranian SAIPA will start deliveries of commercial vehicles and pickup trucks to Russia

Iranian carmaker SAIPA plans to start deliveries of pickup trucks and commercial vehicles to Russia. This was reported to the portal Autonews.ru by a representative of the Belarusian company "Lucky Carensy," which is the distributor of these vehicles. It is expected that commercial vehicles of various payloads, as well as pickups SAIPA-151 and SAIPA-251 will be exported to Russia and Belarus. In addition, the company intends to supply B class (Kwik and Saina) and C class (Shahin) models.
As for the model range of SAIPA cars in Russia, according to preliminary data, it will consist of three models. The first is a cross-hatchback Quik, which is created on the platform X200 - a modernised version of the 1986 Ford Festiva/Mazda 121 chassis. Also for Russian customers it is planned to offer a sedan Saina S, which is built on the same platform as Quik. The third car in the model line-up is a larger sedan Shahin.
SAIPA also plans to start sales of aftermarket parts in Russia and organise production of cars, which will allow them to be offered to customers at lower prices. As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, the Russian distributor of Iranian SAIPA cars, Best Motors LLC, has abandoned its plans to sell these cars in our country. The founders of the company decided to liquidate it.
Alexander Stepanov, the general director of Best Motors, explains this by the change in the economic situation: at the current exchange rate and increased utilization fee it would not be possible to sell SAIPA cars at the price that was originally planned. "The price for an Iranian car should be 20 - 30% lower than for a Chinese car, then it would be interesting," concluded the head of Best Motors.

Used electric car market in Russia declines for the third month in a row

According to the AUTOSTAT agency, in November 2023, Russians purchased 802 used electric cars. Despite the fact that this result is 17% more than in the same month last year, but it turns out to be 16% lower than in October. It should be reminded that in August this year the secondary market of electric cars in our country set a record (1204 vehicles), but at the same time its volumes have been declining for the third month in a row: September - 1159 vehicles, October - 928 vehicles, November - 802 vehicles. One of the reasons for this trend is the ban imposed by the Japanese authorities on import of certain categories of cars to Russia, including electric cars.
Japanese Nissan (413 vehicles) remains the leader of the brand rating in the market of electric cars with a share of more than half (51.5%) of the total volume in November. Every sixth second-hand electric car bought last month belongs to the American brand Tesla (136 vehicles). China's Zeekr (62 vehicles) also made it to the top 3. Among the models, the Nissan Leaf is still the leader in this market, with November results totaling 413 vehicles.
Tesla Model 3 (69 vehicles), Zeekr 001 (47 vehicles), Tesla Model X (26 vehicles) and Audi e-tron (22 vehicles) were also among the top five most popular used electric cars in November. At the end of 11 months of 2023, the volume of the Russian market of electric cars with mileage totaled 9.8 thousand vehicles. This is 22% more than in January-November last year. Experts note another curious point: there are already 60 different brands in the market of electric cars with mileage this year.

Reasons why the Russian car market will grow in 2024 have been found

Reasons why the Russian car market will grow in 2024 have been found

The Russian car market started to recover in the outgoing year after the failed 2022, although the sales volume is still far from the pre-sanctions values. Experts interviewed by AUTOSTAT told us what factors will determine the market dynamics in the coming 2024. According to Viktor Pushkarev, deputy head of the analytics department of AUTOSTAT, taking into account that the Russian market recovered at a record pace (+68%) in the last year, it is natural to expect a significant decline in sales growth in 2024 relative to 2023.
According to the base forecast of the AUTOSTAT agency, the market may grow by about 19 - 20% and reach the volume of about 1.25 million cars. In case of the most favorable economic and geopolitical conditions, the market volume may increase to 1.38 - 1.4 million cars. To return the sales level to the pre-crisis level, it is necessary to ensure a pre-crisis wide range of brands and models and, of course, the pre-crisis level of purchasing power of the population.
"Unfortunately, at the moment Russian buyers have to adapt to the new market conditions, which, first of all, are expressed in a narrow assortment provided exclusively by Chinese cars and inadequately high prices. Probably, the period of adaptation to these conditions may take other 2 - 3 years", - says the expert. According to Alexander Shaprinsky, the development director of the network of dealership centers "Pragmatica", about 1.25 million cars will be sold in 2024, which will make the growth of the car market by 23% in relation to 2023. The factors of sales increase will be: availability of cars, availability of incentive programs from manufacturers, government support of the car market.
To return to the figures of 2021 it is necessary to localize the production of automotive components, as well as restart the existing production facilities. In turn, Renat Tyukteev, Deputy General Director for New Car Sales at Avilon AG, believes that three factors are holding back the return to pre-crisis levels. The first is the high key rate, which affects the credit share and the outflow of clients from the car sector to the bank deposit sector.
The second factor is the expectation of a decline in retail prices, as everyone remembers how they were growing. And the third factor is the slow habituation to Chinese cars. Not everyone is ready to move from their Korean, Japanese and European cars, it takes time.

Russia will engage in deep localization of electronic automotive components

Deep localization of electronic automotive components is planned to start in Russia in 2024-2025. This was announced to the agency "TASS" by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak, according to whom, the process of getting on the conveyors of car manufacturers for new electronic components as part of electronic blocks takes an average of 2 - 3 years. Thus, in the next two years Russia will start serial import substitution of such components as printed circuit boards, navigation modules, resistors, as well as capacitors and connectors.
As Vasily Shpak reminded, Russia has already established production of domestic ERA-GLONASS and ABS systems, and soon will start production of ESP systems. As previously reported AUTOSTAT, the Russian government will allocate additional 15 billion rubles to subsidize concessional loans of the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) for projects on localization of auto components. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, according to whom the subsidies will be used to finance at least 10 significant projects, including the organization of serial production of anti-lock braking system and passive safety elements.
He noted that the decision will allow to increase the pace of development and production of components. "To guarantee uninterrupted operation of assembly lines, it is necessary to localize the production of the maximum possible number of auto components inside the country," the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said. As it was specified in the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the additional financing of the car component program of the FPF in the amount of 15 billion rubles is allocated for the current year. In total, since launch of this program last year, more than 52 billion rubles have already been allocated for its implementation.
The program envisages granting soft loans to enterprises at 3 - 5% for up to 7 years for localization of auto component production with the total budget of the project from 100 million rubles to 5 billion rubles.

According to the results of 10 months Changan occupied the seventh line of the brand rating, but due to November sales it managed to bypass not only EXEED, but also OMODA. Sales of electric crossover OMODA E5 will start on Russian market in March - April 2024. Victor Nashchansky, director of OMODA and JAECOO brands, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta, adding that the first cars have already arrived in the country to undergo tests and obtain the necessary documentation. "Developing the sale of hybrid and electric cars is a strategic objective for each of the brands that make up the Chery Automobiles Rus Group.
"As for the development strategy of the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, all hybrid and electric cars will be sold within the scope of the current dealer network," said Victor Naschansky. Electric crossover OMODA E5 is characterised by low charge consumption, which is only 15.5 kWh per 100 km, which provides a range of 430 km and eliminates the need for frequent recharging.
At the same time, OMODA E5 uses fast charging technology, which allows you to top up the battery from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Recall, at the moment the OMODA model range in Russia includes a crossover OMODA C5, which is offered in two versions with front and all-wheel drive, as well as sedan OMODA S5 and its "charged" version S5 GT.
As previously reported AUTOSTAT, in addition to the electric crossover E5, in 2024 in the Russian market is expected a new crossover OMODA C7, which belongs to the segment C-SUV. But the appearance in our country of the compact OMODA C3 remains in doubt.

Cars of Iranian SAIPA have passed all the necessary tests in Russia and received approval of vehicle type (VTA). This was reported to Autonews.ru portal by a representative of the official distributor of the company "Lucky Carensy". After receiving this document, the cars of the brand can start selling on the Russian market. Initially, two models of the brand will go on sale.
Thus, on our market should debut cross-hatchback Quik with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 87 hp. The vehicle can work together with a 5-speed gearbox or variator (both versions will be presented in Russia). Exact prices for car in Russia are not yet known. Russian customers will also be offered the Saina S sedan, which is built on the same platform as Quik.
The powertrain is also identical to cross-hatchback. The car will be available with manual transmission and variator. It is expected that Saina will be the most affordable SAIPA model in Russia. The Russian premiere of the Shahin sedan, which is built on the Toyota B platform and equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo engine with 110 hp combined with a manual transmission, is still in question. The main problem with this model launch, according to Lucky Carency, was "too high price".
Lucky Carency promises that next year the production of SAIPA cars should be set up at the Belarusian plant Unison. The company says that the relevant agreement for assembly has already been signed, but the size of quotas for Iranian cars has not yet been approved. Recall, earlier Lucky Carency announced plans to supply pickup trucks and commercial vehicles SAIPA.
It is expected to export commercial vehicles of various payloads, as well as pickups SAIPA-151 and SAIPA-251 to Russia and Belarus. In addition, the company intends to supply B class (Kwik and Saina) and C class (Shahin) models.

Chinese company VGV, which is a division of truck manufacturer SINOTRUK and specializes in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, has announced its upcoming entry into the Russian market in 2024. VGV's strategic partner in Russia is Motor Place, which is currently actively engaged in forming a dealer network, according to the distributor's press service.
For consumers will be presented two mid-size seven-seat crossovers VGV U70 Pro and U75 Plus, which will be equipped with manual transmission or traditional "automatic". As noted, the VGV cars have been adapted to Russian operating conditions, receiving more than 100 changes. Thus, the manufacturer has made changes in equipment, suspension design, reconfigured algorithms of the engine and hydromechanical gearbox. Some improvements have been made to the interior of the car, and full Russification has been carried out.
According to the head of "Motor Place" Mikhail Plotnikov, prices for VGV cars promise to be extremely competitive. Earlier experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency found out that 19 new Chinese brands officially entered the Russian market this year - BAIC, Haima, Hongqi, Jetour, Kaiyi, Livan, Jetta, SWM, TANK, JAECOO, ORA, Wey, AITO, Forthing, Lixiang, Rising, Venucia, Voyah, Skywell. These are those who have made official presentations, announced their intention to sell cars in Russia, opened sales in car dealerships (own or partner), started to form dealer networks and service centres.
At that, for Haima it is not the first coming to Russia. Taking into account the Chinese brands that were officially represented in our country until 2023 (such as Haval, Chery, Geely and others; 16 in total), the total number of brands from China presented in Russia reaches 35. If we add those Chinese brands whose cars are sold unofficially (Avatr, BYD, Hiphi, Xpeng and a number of others; more than 20 in total), we will have about 60 brands representing the Chinese car industry.

The government will additionally allocate 39 billion rubles to the Industry Development Fund to support the Russian car industry, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the meeting. "We will provide additional support to help our enterprises in a short period of time to build up the missing competences and fully guarantee the stable functioning of assembly lines under the sanctions," the Autonews.ru portal quoted the head of the Cabinet of Ministers as saying.
According to him, a significant part of these funds will be allocated to key projects of automakers, including research and development. "It is extremely important that Russian cars meet modern technical requirements adopted in the world, and were not inferior to foreign models in terms of reliability," - said Mikhail Mishustin. Earlier, the Russian government decided to allocate additional 15 billion rubles to subsidize concessional loans of the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) for projects on auto components localization.
The subsidies will be used to finance at least 10 significant projects, including the organization of serial production of anti-lock braking system and passive safety elements. As noted, the decision will allow to increase the pace of development and production of components.
