There is one point we are all overlooking. The russians might not stop at the border. Last we heard, not much time was spend on Kiev fortifying the border itself, so there is no reason why they might not punch right through the defence's as they are doing now in Sudza and just keep going. The russians already have assembled a large amount of man power at the border, a lot more than the ukranians. The Russian’s would be at an advantage in an open field.

The Ukrainian 155-mm self-propelled howitzer "Bogdana" on the Tatra Phoenix chassis was destroyed by the Russian kamikaze drone "Lancet-51". The video was filmed in the Kharkov region of Ukraine, near the village of Dolzhanka, which is about 12 kilometers from the border. As a result of the strike of the Russian drone "Lancet-51", a fire started in the Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer 2S22 "Bogdana".

This wasn't a spur of the moment operation to take advantage of lack of American intel. In fact this is quite the opposite where using the pipeline circumvents the ability for American intelligence, satellites specifically, to do anything about it.
The point of this entire operation was to get around both the Ukrainian defensive lines AND American intelligence. And Kiev losing Sudzha is a huge blow, the city had control of the gas hub for Europe, it was the only reason of resilience to exert pressure!
Again, you can't just plan an attack of a city defended by a brigade with just light infantry alone. Also, Ukraine did not fight for the city, if you are just pumping in light infantry, you are going to have a fight just about anywhere.

Also, the US cut intel just about a week ago, unless Trump notified Putin beforehand, they are going to cut Ukraine intel a month or so before Russia try the gas pipe thing, there are no telling Ukrainian would have loss intel from America and frozen the line.

Also, as long as Ukraine held on to Sumy and Chernihiv Oblast, losing Sudzha is not really a big deal because you can't get access to Europe anyway because it has to route thru Ukraine. And they weren't supposed to capture Sudzha to begin with, it is within Russian Territories......

Eric Prince, founder of the largest American PMC Blackwater:

The Russians are very good at electronic warfare. A lot of American equipment - Javelin missiles, HIMARS, Copperhead, which are guided artillery shells - work for a week or two. And the Russians have figured out how to jam navigation or command communications, and it all goes down.

When you look at even what's happening in Ukraine, first of all, don't listen to the idiot politicians who say we destroyed the Russian army. No, we have used up a lot of material. The Russian army has become infinitely smarter. If you fired artillery at a Russian in March or April 2022, it would take him 1.5 hours to respond accurately. Now it's about 2 minutes. That means if you're shooting at them, you better sit in your car and drive away. Because if you don't, they're gonna get you.

This is why I keep on telling people not to listen to all the nonsense the battle right now is fought on Western Tech terms! I am curious to see what Ukraine will be able to do! Initially they were having this great advantage of nato intel and drones and Russia basically underestimated by their enemy. Now with a clear area of engagement and Russian use of jamming tech, satellite surveillance and tracking targets it's game over essentially!
