Russia-Ukraine War - News, Discussions & Updates

All that money for nothing. Ukrainian army failed to take a single teeny tiny village.
Well, look at the size of Ukraine and its capabilities. That’s still too little to fight Putin’s Russia, that’s a giant military monster, backed by unlimited friend China. That’s a long war of attrition. Let keep this thread for 10y then we will see.

Ukraine F16s primary mission will be bringing down the russian glide bombers.

I wonder how long it will be before the first one is shot down and lost ...
It's never about being shot down or not, it's about transforming Ukrainian equipment to western standard. So the support that come later is going to be a lot easier.

You can shoot down an F-16 if you want, the issue is not whether or not the individual lost that is the problem the issue here is if you shoot down a Mig-29 or Su-27, you can't supply another airframe, and all the rigging done to those airframe so they can carry/fire western weapon is gone, which mean you need to do that on another Ukrainian airframe.

With US/Allied supplying F-16, you don't do need to do anything to fit western weapon on them as it was already configured with western weapon in mind, that save both time and resource and you can put more effort into the aid itself instead of spending them jury rigging the Ukrainian airframe. You save 5-10% of those aid money just because you don't need to do that anymore.

On the other hand, airframe loss isn't really an issue, as long as the pilot is saved, pilot don't generally go down with the aircraft nowadays, you shot down a F-16, US have 450 stored in Neveda and they are ready to go. Ukrainian pilot would just hop on another aircraft if they were shot down, as they aren't chasing Russian fighter in Russia, most of them will be landed back in Ukraine if they were shot down.

The first two Danish F-16AM fighters have arrived in Ukraine. The aircraft were personally presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Vasylkiv airfield, 40 km from Kyiv. The aircraft's side numbers have been obscured, but thanks to photos from the flights, they were identified as UA 80-3596 and UA 80-3599. Both Ukrainian fighters were built under license at the Belgian aircraft manufacturer SABCA, and in 1982 they were transferred to Denmark under the numbers E-596 and E-599. Denmark plans to transfer a total of 79 F-16 fighters to Ukraine. The estimated service life of the F-16A/B airframe is 8,000 hours, while all "European" F-16A/Bs have a flight time of 7,000 to 7,500 hours to date. The Ukrainian F-16 fighters are equipped with medium-range AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles and short-range AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The aircraft have external fuel tanks. Presumably, the F-16's task will be to support the remaining Ukrainian Su-24MR and MiG-29 aircraft, as well as launch Storm Shadow and SCALP cruise missiles. Ukrainian F-16 pilots received JHMCS helmet-mounted targeting sights, which allows the pilot to shoot where his gaze is directed regardless of the direction of the helmet. The aircraft are equipped with the Terma PIDS+ and ECIPS+ missile attack warning system, with a jamming device and the release of additional heat traps. The F-16 fighters transferred to Ukraine will be based at the Limanske airfield in the Odessa region on the border with Romania.

Ukraine F16s finally and unequivocally break cover. Some interesting nuggets in the video, inc. the Terma Pylon Integrated Dispensing System Universal (PIDSU) missile warning and EW pylons that were fitted to the Danish F-16s (stations 3/7) have been carried over...

These two airframes are ground trainers, so just keep that in mind for any potential future BDA (hopefully not). Ground trainers acquired in numbers could prove to be very effective decoys.

As to AMRAAM, they received Bs from U.S. stock and will receive new C8s from Raytheon this year from Lot 36. That includes most if not all C8s in Lot 36.

They will likely receive older Cs from U.S. stock in the interim and allies may have provided some Cs already.

The Russians destroyed two Patriot missile launchers traveling in a convoy almost a year after delivery.
This is hardly notable.

The Americans broke the Iraqi Integrated Air Defense in one night, firing HARMs against emitting SAM batteries.

These two things are not the same.
