Russia-Ukraine War - News, Discussions & Updates

Every street, every corner, every tree row is constantly watched by a drone.
Wow!!!! Seriously?

Let's think about it.

Stalingrad: life expectancy of 24 hours. Therefore, the life expectancy of a squad was on average one week.

You're telling me that the Russians are eliminated every seven minutes on the front line. In just one single day, the Russians would have lost a company.

Are you sure about your calculation?

Let's talk about real data here:

Ukraine’s new infantry recruits ‘freeze’ in face of Russian onslaught

The Financial Times article examines the worrying performance of Ukraine’s recruits.

Summary:
Ukraine has managed to increase its troop strength and armament, but the quality of recruits raises many questions.

Commanders are increasingly concerned about the rate at which they are being killed or wounded in battle, the FT writes.

Ukrainian infantry has suffered the most. Some soldiers simply abandon their positions, allowing the Russians to gain more ground.

Ukrainian military commanders in Donbass say new recruits lack basic combat skills and motivation.

Commanders estimate that 50 to 70 percent of new infantrymen are killed or wounded within days of starting their first rotation.

Senior Ukrainian officials say Ukraine has been mobilizing 30,000 soldiers a month since May. But commanders on the ground and military analysts warn that these people are unmotivated, psychologically and physically unprepared – and as a result, they are dying at an alarming rate.

Some guys simply “freeze” because they are afraid of shooting at the enemy, and then they are the ones walking around in body bags or getting seriously wounded, says a Ukrainian commander. Some return so exhausted that they require mental health care.

“When new guys take up positions, many of them run away at the first burst of shells,” said the deputy commander of Ukraine’s 72nd Mechanized Brigade, which is currently fighting in Ugledar.

Age is a key issue in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with the average age being 45. In addition, the Ukrainian army is led by officers and generals who began their careers in Soviet times and “never took part in hostilities”.

People from all walks of life were sent to the infantry, but not all of them were suited for the front.

The convicts who were mobilized have turned out to be good soldiers, demonstrating dedication and the ability to adapt in a combat zone, officers say. Another major problem these days is that the instructors themselves lack real combat experience, so they fail to teach recruits what they need to know to fight and, more importantly, stay alive. “Some of our soldiers don’t even know how to hold rifles. They spend more time peeling potatoes than shooting,” said one commander, who even bought paintball equipment instead of rifles and live ammunition so that recruits could get more training without wasting precious ammunition. ZSU commander-in-chief Oleksandr Sirsky said this month that he had ordered the quality of training for recruits to be improved by recruiting “motivated instructors with co

The article presents data that Ukrainians recruit 30,000 soldiers per month and that, from a more conservative perspective, 50% are killed or wounded in a few days of combat. But the most pessimistic figure would be 70%.

If these numbers are correct, Ukrainian forces would have total casualties of between 15,000 and 21,000 soldiers per month, among conscripts alone. It is quite likely that this number includes deserters and soldiers who surrender to the Russians during combat.
