Well, it seems to be a different News and in fact it is true!

Cockpit design is very similar to the Su-30 where as the J-20 dual seater it's more sleek

Maiden flight of the Su-57D (?) today

My guess is this:

In a few days, the Indians will start hyping things up again:

"India to acquire the Su-57..."

"The Su-57 obliterates the J-35..."

"India to get the Su-57—a game-changer..."

It's a good replacement for Su-30MKI.

I have absolutely no objections.

In fact, I stated this a long time ago:

For the Indian Air Force, the Su-57 is their only option.

Forget the F-35, forget the AMCA, forget future Rafales, forget FCAS/GCAP, forget everything else......

The indians always planned to co-develop a twin seat version for their FIFA programme, before the Russians stopped sharing critical technology of that Su-57. Now the Russians have developed it by themselves so the indians will probably copy the Su-30 MKI programme and adapt it for their needs.

The cockpit looks so weird and huge

The Russian engineers are being lazy as that is a lift and shit cockpit layout from the Su30. The more they make changes to this, the more it looks like a mismash Frankenstein plane.

The Su-57 is already famous for it's design flaws, wouldn't this style of dual seat cockpit make the RCS even worse? I mean, look at the J-20 dual seat plane, the cockpit design is very sleek and covers the pilot on the rear where as this looks like a huge bulge

The stealth design of a fifth-generation fighter jet constitutes a complex systems engineering endeavor. It adheres to the principle of the "Barrel Effect"—or the "Law of the Minimum." If a significant factor influencing the aircraft's Radar Cross-Section (RCS) already exists and is inherently difficult to modify, then no matter how much we optimize other factors, such efforts hold very little practical significance; they cannot alter the ultimate RCS signature of the fighter jet as a whole.

The intended role of the J-20S has been fully clarified. The primary mission of the rear-seat crew member is battlefield management and command and control. Their operational focus lies in monitoring and managing the entire battlespace via display screens, rather than observing the external environment outside the cockpit. Consequently, there is no requirement to elevate the rear seat to enhance their field of view.

However, were a two-seat fighter to be tasked with serving a training function—or should the rear-seat crew member be required to execute strike missions necessitating direct visual targeting—it would then become imperative to elevate the rear seat to expand the crew member's field of view.

Although Russia's precision manufacturing and electronics industries have indeed underperformed, given Russia's capabilities in fighter aircraft aerodynamic design—a discipline closely linked to external configuration—designing a two-seat layout similar to that of the J-20S would pose absolutely no problem. Furthermore, people seem to have forgotten that the pioneer of modern fighter stealth theory was the Soviet physicist P. Ya. Ufimtsev. Russia certainly does not lack expertise in fighter stealth research; they are fully aware of the impact that a design like that of the Su-57D fighter has on its Radar Cross Section (RCS).

However, this raises broader questions:

1. Do you already possess a dedicated trainer platform specifically designed for fifth-generation fighters? — This determines whether you need to develop a trainer variant of your fifth-generation fighter. In other words, will you utilize a two-seat trainer version of the fighter itself, or will you develop a standalone trainer aircraft?

2. Is your systemic capability sufficient to support your fifth-generation fighters in conducting fully stealth-enabled, "silent" combat operations? — This determines the likelihood that your fifth-generation fighters will be forced to engage in visual-range combat.

3. Is your MUM-T (Manned-Unmanned Teaming) combat system mature? — A mature system and an experimental system are two entirely different concepts. Russia does possess a MUM-T combat system, but to what scale can they actually support MUM-T operations? This is a very critical issue.

4. To what extent have your Beyond Visual Range (BVR) strike capabilities been developed? — This is not merely a question of whether such capabilities exist, but also concerns the effectiveness of the strikes and the scale of their deployment.
