Suggestion regarding RV Campers

Beautiful but that's too posh for my taste, I like the spartan look.
Less likely to attract attention. Grey man is the way to go.

Do, when you get a chance, read the post I made with the accompanying photo in the beginning of the thread.

You can thank me later when you're done laughing.

@Starlord , here you go! The ultimate way to RV:

I happened to be out running errands this morning and needed to stop by the grocery store. Saw this in the parking lot. Tow vehicle is a BMW SUV. Obviously it's been rode a little hard. But check out the trailer setup.

I suspect this may be a traveling drug dealer or perhaps an accountant. I counted no less than 4 security cameras plus there are motion detectors on the windows.
Those are IP CCTV cameras - good quality ones too. 100% meth vibes 🤣

Keep an eye out for church vans for sale. This one was for sale last year for only $3,500.00.

Stealth is very important nowadays when traveling. Again, I traveled in my van for five years (see post #11).

This church van is ideal to travel and live in across the Midwest.

Get with a local woodworker, one can have a really cool van that can go anywhere. (see post #42).

I was away, so I am late to this thread.

My only advice to anyone considering this is NOT to do it, unless you have deep pockets. The costs add up quick. For a relatively short term trip as you are considering, either rent, or buy used, and sell as soon as possible.

===============================

For a one-person, one-year U.S. trip, a small RV can be worth it for freedom, photography access, bad-weather shelter, and avoiding hotel logistics. Financially, it is usually not cheaper than car + motels unless you buy used carefully, avoid heavy private-campground use, and resell well.
The biggest cost is not fuel. It is usually:
depreciation + sales tax + campground fees + repairs.
As of late June 2026, U.S. regular gas averaged $3.831/gal and diesel $4.668/gal, so fuel matters, but it is not the whole story.

Best RV type for one person

OptionProsConsCost verdict
Class B camper vanEasiest to drive, park, stealthier, fits cities and scenic roads, best for solo travelExpensive per square foot, cramped shower/toilet, limited storageBest lifestyle choice, often worst purchase price
Small Class C / B+More space, real bathroom, better bad-weather comfortLower mpg, harder to park, more “RV park” dependentBetter livability for a full year
Small travel trailer + existing truckCheapest RV asset, easy to sell, truck can be detachedTowing every day gets old, campsites more necessary, harder in citiesBest financial choice if you already own a capable truck
Truck camperCompact, go-anywhere feel, no trailerExpensive for size, high center of gravity, limited living spaceGood for rugged trips, not best comfort-per-dollar

Realistic one-year cost estimate, excluding food

Assume 20,000 miles, one person, 365 nights, and resale after the trip.

Buy price$80k–$125k$55k–$95k$20k–$45k
One-year depreciation / resale loss$8k–$22k$7k–$18k$3k–$10k

I haven't take the cost into account, but it was my concern for the maintenance cost of it, i did get a quote for Coleman 13R insurance rate at Camping world, they were offering a combo car+Trailer = 330$ , or if i stick with my insurance that is progressive for car, then i was quoted 55$ just for the trailer.

You and Davey really want me to look creepy AF, lol
Bro you will blend in. No one will suspect you, plus if you drive a POS you have zero chance of aggro.

All you are missing is a baseball cap and blasting this as you drive by:
